Windows 10: Random folders appeared on my hard disk after windows 10 update.

After the last Windows 10 update, I went onto my 2tb hard disk and found over 100 folders filled with FILE files, the folders numbered from a1-a10, and 1-100. How did they get there, and can I delete them, or should I hide them?

Disk bloat in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

Is it my imagination, or does the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update consume an additional 20-30GB of disk space over the previous Creators Update release? Unfortunately, I didn't log my disk usage before the upgrade, but now my C: drive has 56GB of stuff, and I know it wasn't anywhere near that full before. I've run "Disk Cleanup -> Clean up system files" and selected everything on the list, including remove previous version of Windows. I also emptied my Recycle Bin, my Temp folder, \Windows\Temp folder, and \Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder. Finally, I ran Wise Disk Cleaner to delete assorted application garbage.

Has anyone else noticed the bloat in Fall Creators Update?

In process explorer right click on columns > select columns > process disk tab > enable disk delta write bytes
Order the process list by disk delta write bytes columns and monitor which process springs on top when files and folders are being created.
If it's one of the svchost.exe instances then look at it's modules and threads in the lower pane to detect the culprit.

You need to find out what is creating them exactly, right click the folders and see what they are tied to.
