Random FPS spikes on my PC after about a week of inactivity.

Hey, so I didn’t use my PC for a week. Left it in the garage, then came to it again and started playing with it. I would take some breaks now and then but everything was normal. After about the first week I started using it though, I began to experience these annoying fps spikes 60 to 53 for about 0.5 seconds and I don’t know what could be causing it. My first guess was the dust that built up when I left it in the garage. Checked my CPU usage in Process Hacker when it was lagspiking, it seemed normal when I was gaming. Tried to monitor see whatever program is causing it, but that ended up to

    :)

  2. Major FPS lag spikes every 5-10 minutes

Hi im really in need of assistance. My computer always has FPS spikes every time i update windows 10 and its causing me to lose my mind because it affects my work when im on video calls and when when i want to chill and play some games but i cant because
my FPS dips to 5-10 frames per second every 5 to 10 minutes. Previously i followed some game DVR steps and it worked () . But a week ago my computer was forced to go through the windows update
after denying the update for more than a week. So now my computer is back to its laggy state with FPS spikes all the time. When there is no fps spike my computer is really smooth and the sounds work can still be heard clearly. Please recommend me on what i
should do as im in a hellish week for work as well

  3. Major FPS lag spikes every 5-10 minutes

The issue has nothing to do with my graphic cards and the drivers as i have updated them and reinstalled them cleanly.

I know for a FACT that the Windows update are always the trigger that starts the lag in frames. Is there a setting to permanently disable the windows updates? And also to fix the issue that always arises when i update windows.... Random FPS spikes on my PC after about a week of inactivity. :(

Why does my cpu and gpu keep spiking and dropping fps in games?

Thanks for reaching out! I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you.

Experiencing CPU and GPU spikes, along with FPS drops in games, can be frustrating. Here are some potential solutions to help you address these issues:

    1. Update Drivers:
      • Regularly update your graphics and chipset drivers to the latest versions to ensure optimal performance and compatibility.
    2. Close Background Processes:
      • Use Task Manager to close unnecessary background processes and applications that might be using system resources.
    3. Improve Cooling:
      • Clean your PC's fans and ensure proper airflow. Consider adding more fans or using a more aggressive cooling solution if necessary.
    4. Check for Malware:
      • Run a full system scan to check for malware that might be using system resources.
    5. Adjust Game Settings:
      • Lower the game's graphical settings to reduce the workload on your GPU and CPU. This can help maintain a more stable FPS.
    6. Test Hardware:
      • Test your GPU and other hardware components on another system to rule out hardware failure. If a component is faulty, consider replacing it.
    7. Enable Unified GPU Usage Monitoring:
      • If using MSI Afterburner, enable "unified GPU usage monitoring" to potentially fix usage spikes and stuttering.
    8. Check Internet Connection:
      • Ensure your internet connection is stable, especially for online games. A weak connection can cause FPS drops.
Please do let me know if the method I suggested works for you or if you need further assistance.
