Random Freezes. Higher frequency while playing games

I made a similar thread earlier but then the PC stopped acting so bad. The only thing I did was use DDU to uninstall nVidia drivers and reinstall an older version. Now I have changed my GPU from nVidia to AMD because of the same problem but the problem still persists. The problem is even more serious at the moment. I get a freeze before I can finish a Paragon game. Not only while gaming but the crash appears randomly while browsing internet or once even browsing for files.

The frequency is much higher while gaming though which is the major issue for me. After I force it to reboot it boots up normally but if I rejoin the game it will surely freeze again in a few minutes. I have attached the zip I was told to attach in posting instruction. There are no logs in Minidump folder. I guess because it wasn't a BSOD. I have tried pressing the num lock/ scroll key to see if the PC has actually frozen or its just the display but its the whole system that is frozen.

I have even opened a Microsoft support ticket for this 2 weeks ago only to wait for a reply for an eternity.

I have tested RAM using MemTest. I cannot remember how many tests it was but it took 2ish hours and there were no errors. I do not know what is causing problems. Please help.

    Thanks.

    :)

  2. I keep getting BSOD, first POOL_CORRUPTION, BAD_POOL_HEADER, now MEMORY_MANAGEMENT

While playing games my computer keeps either freezing completely or getting a BSOD. I used bluescreenviewer to get some of the information. I got errors regarding the POOL. Such as BAD_POOL_HEADER or POOL_CORRUPTION_IN_FILE_AREA

I then used driver verifier on windows and this increased the frequency of my BSOD from usually only when playing games to a few minutes into starting my computer. All of these were MEMORY_MANAGEMENT.

I have already ran 11 passes in memtest86 with no errors.

Yes. Thursday played the games and the ad wasn't there. No problem with the games. Yesterday played the game and each time the ad appeared the game would freeze for a while. It is the ad.

Random Freezes. Higher frequency while playing games

RAM testing with memtest86+ requires 8 complete passes. Full instructions here:

    RAM:

Follow this tutorial: MemTest86+ - Test RAM - Windows 10 Forums

    Information

Random Freezes. Higher frequency while playing games [IMG]

    MemTest86+
is a diagnostic tool designed to test Random Access Memory (RAM) for faults. MemTest86+ will verify that:

    • RAM will accept and keep random patterns of data sent to it
    • There are no errors when different parts of memory try to interact
    • There are no conflicts between memory addresses

Memtest86+ runs from bootable media to isolate the RAM from the system, no other components are taken into account during the test.

Random Freezes. Higher frequency while playing games [IMG]
    Warning
MemTest86+ needs to run for at least 8 passes to be anywhere near conclusive, anything less will not give a complete analysis of the RAM.

If you are asked to run MemTest86+ by a Ten Forums member make sure you run the full 8 passes for conclusive results. If you run less than 8 passes you will be asked to run it again.

Random Freezes. Higher frequency while playing games [IMG]
    Note
MemTest86+ has been known to discover errors in RAM in later passes than the eighth pass. This is for information only; if you feel there is a definite problem with the RAM and 8 passes have shown no errors feel free to continue for longer.

Running 8 passes of MemTest86+ is a long and drawn out exercise and the more RAM you have the longer it will take. It's recommended to run MemTest86+ just before you go to bed and leave it overnight.

    Hello sir,

    Thanks for your reply.

I will make sure to run full 8 pass of memtest+ tomorrow.

May be I wasn't clear enough in the post. I am not actually facing BSODs just random freezes. As in the system freezes as it is and I cannot do anything but hard reboot. Is there anything else I can do to let you know what is going on with my pc?

Run Driver Verifier, see if it shakes anything out.

    Driver Verifier
is a diagnostic tool built into Windows 10, it is designed to verify both native Microsoft drivers and third party drivers. Driver Verifier's verification process involves putting heavy stress on drivers with the intention of making bad, outdated, incompatible or misbehaving drivers fail. The required result is a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) which will generate a crash dump for debugging purposes.
Machines exposed to Driver Verifier will run very sluggishly due to the stress being applied to the drivers.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable in Windows 10

    Pay close attention to

Random Freezes. Higher frequency while playing games [IMG]
    PART TWO
Random Freezes. Higher frequency while playing games [IMG]

and make sure the correct boxes are checked.

    Warning:
It is not advised to run Driver Verifier for more than 48 hours at a time. Disable Driver Verifier after 48 hours or after receiving a BSOD, whichever happens soonest.

Always create a Restore Point prior to enabling Driver Verifier.

What we're looking for is a BSOD with a mini dump that will tell us what driver caused it.

You can also try stress testing your CPU and GPU:

Follow this tutorial to stress test your CPU:

Prime95 - Stress Test Your CPU - Windows 10 Forums

Follow this tutorials to stress test your GPU:

FurMark - GPU Stress Test - Windows 10 Forums

If you have a AMD APU instead of a discreet GPU, try UNIGINE 3D Benchmark..

    Hello sir,

I ran memtest for 8 passes with no red lines so no errors. Ram seems to be fine. I have started Driver Verifier but as seen on that post I am supposed to run it for 48 hours or BSOD. I will get back regarding that.

I have stress tested my CPU using AIDA64 for 3-4 hours without any freeze/BSOD and ran Unigine valley quiet a few times. Is that enough or should I stress test using FurMark and Prime95?

EDIT: Sometimes after I force a reboot, just before the lock screen I get some messages. First message is "Starting watchdog initialization". It passes by too fast for me to read other lines but there are 5-6 more lines after that. This happens rarely though.

I believe Prime95 is a better stress test than AIEDA64. You can run it but wait until Driver Verifier is done and disabled.

Alright I used Prime95 to stress test but no BSOD. Not even a freeze.

The Driver verifier has been turned on for more then 48 hours now and no BSOD from that either.
The only freezes I have faced are while playing Paragon/Overwatch.

One other thing that I noticed is whenever the PC freezes and I instantly force reboot it, it will definitely freeze again before I can rejoin the game. At that time I force reboot it again and it won't freeze again no matter however much I play after that. This has happened 7 times in the past 2 days continuously. Cannot be a coincidence right?

Run FurMark next, see if it shakes anything out.

What devices do you have connected to your PC? Any XBOX controller or other game devices. If yes, can you run the game without? May be a stupid question but I'm not a gamer so had to ask.

I don't have any accessory connected to the PC except headphone. I do have a network card though.

I do not know this for sure but ever since I changed the PCI slot for GPU yesterday, the frequency of freezes has been lowered. Only faced 2 in 36 hours while I used to face 5-6 before. Even though GPU should not be at blame for this as I switched from SLI 960s to R9 390. Could motherboard be the problem? If so, is there any way to test it?

I will run FurMark and get back.
    Thanks for all your help.

How did you get to Windows 10 on this PC? What did you upgrade from?

Have you considered doing a Clean Install after backing up all your data and drivers?

I had Windows 10 education installed before. I had the same issue and I first blamed the OS. Switched to my old Windows 7 but the issue was still there. Concluded that Windows is not at fault and thought there must be some sort of virus on one of my other drives. Wiped my hard drive clean and reinstalled Windows 10 education. Currently I am on that Windows 10. I have no important data on the computer just games which can be redownloaded. I can clean install again if you think that might help.

It's worth trying a clean install. I'm leaning more toward a hardware problem but a clean install is easy to do and who knows, it may fix this problem.

Follow this tutorial: Windows 10 - Clean Install

If not then we have to try to figure out what hardware is causing the problem. Seems unlikely to be the GPU since you tried a Nvidia and AMD card, but who knows.

You could also try reseating all cables, cards and memory modules.
