random freezing when moving mouse to taskbar

Windows 10 will now be available to the general public beginning 5/8/2018.
Early release is available on 4/30/2018.

The log files indicated the computer was/is having problems with BSOD.

    1) See if you can find out the drivers that were installed using Iorbit or driver booster.
    2) Uninstall Iorbit
Remove IObit Uninstaller from PC-Uninstall Guide
    3) Uninstall Driver Booster
    4) List all of the malware products (antivirus, firewall) products currently in use and those products used since the last Windows upgrade. (always on and manual)

    5) Update the specs in the "My Computer" section:
System Specs - Fill in at Ten Forums: System Specs - Fill in at Ten Forums Windows 10 Tutorials
In the left corner below in your post you find 'My System Specs'.
After clicking it you can find a link a little below that says 'Update your System Spec', click on this link to get to the page where you can fill in your system specs.

Post images of the test results for these tabs into the thread for each drive:
    a) Health (SMART)
    b) Benchmark
    c) Full error scan

    18) Run Sea Tools for Windows:
Post images of the test results for these tests into the thread for each drive:
    a) long generic

    19) Run memtest86+ version 5.01 for at least 8 passes. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
This may take hours so plan to run it overnight.
    a) Please make sure you use the Memtest86+ version 5.01 with the link below.
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
The testing is done not by time but by passes.
    The more passes the better.
There are a significant number of false negatives if fewer than 8 passes are made.
A false negative is a test pass when there is malfunctioning RAM.
There is 8 GB of RAM on the computer.
    Memtest86+ version 5.01 testing takes approximately 1 - 2 hours /GB RAM
Just 1 error is a fail and you can abort testing.
Then test 1 RAM module at a time in the same DIMM each for 8 or more passes.
    b) When Memtest86+ version 5.01 has completed 8 or more passes use a camera or smart phone camera to take a picture and post an image into the thread.

    20) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
    21) sfc /scannow
    22) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    23) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

    24) chkdsk /x /f /r
Run this on all partitions/drives using the syntax: chkdsk /x /f /r C: or chkdsk /x /f /r D: changing the drive letter to the applicable partition/drive
This may take many hours so plan to run overnight.

    C:\Windows\system32>chkdsk /x /f /r
The type of the file system is NTFS.
    Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

    Type: Y
    reboot

    25) Use the information in this link to find the chkdsk reports in the event viewer. Copy and paste > notepad > post one drive or drop box share links into the thread:

i've been dealing with this problem on my laptop since 10 was available and have yet to find a solution. i have tried every trick i've come across on the web or magazines, etc. it's still an issue. now i have finally put 10 on my desktop after running it in a dual boot setup with 8.1 and have had relatively no issues with it. now the screen freezes up randomly around 6 to 8 times in the last week. this occurs 99% of the time when i move the cursor to the taskbar. i don't even get the chance to click on the icon, it just freezes. same on the laptop, except it also happens when i go to the upper right X to close a program. can't believe i'm having the same issue on two different computers.
any suggestions would be most appreciated. i am awaiting the spring creator's update hoping that it will fix this issue, but i thought i'd head over here first. i just updated the bios hoping that might help, but it froze about 2 hrs. afterwards. geez! on the verge of heading back to 8.1. thanks.

    :)

Windows 10 Freezes But Mouse Still Moves

Problem in a nutshell. Windows 10 will, after what appears to be a random duration, freeze up. The mouse pointer will still move, but nothing else responds (also unable to bring up the task manager). I have since performed a clean install, holding off
on installing any drivers or software, and the desktop continues to freeze up with the exception of the mouse pointer. Any thoughts?

  5. Hi zenchi. Welcome to the Tenforums @zenchi

Have to ask is this the same mouse?

Likely you have the same software on both devices?

I would start with unloading any AV that is not Defender. Then I would try the Clean boot method to isolate third party software.

Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 10 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts

If it happens with a clean boot could you post back.

Does reliability history have anything to say. Click start, start typing reliability history, app should pop to top of list.

random freezing when moving mouse to taskbar

no solution yet. added a few services and it froze 3 times tonight, but not how it usually does but doing something within a program i.e. clicking a graphic on a web page. this seems worse than before. also i attempted using a media streamer for my tv but it won't drop down to 720p like it did in win.8.1; the screen just goes black and there's a hand with a finger extended. it's not the middle one, but i got the point!!! as well, windows only sees my screen res at 1360 or something. it took a number of reboots and uninstalling the intel graphics driver to finally get back to 1080p. will keep trying the services, but i have a hunch that's not it. cheers.

  9. You can always do an in place repair / upgrade. Assuming you are on 1709 this will be a repair. I always recommend backing up personal data.

If it doesn't freeze with a clean boot then I believe strongly you are looking at a software conflict.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

One other thing, open device manager, click on view, click on show hidden devices. Expand mouse and keyboard and delete hidden devices (they look grayed out)

As well please check window updates for any outstanding updates.

In the left lower corner of each post there is "My Computer".
It displays the desktop but not the laptop.
Please update the desktop and open the option to post information on the second computer so that information is available on the notebook.

thanks zbook. yes there was freezing after clean boot. i found 2 keyboard entries in device manager; so deleted one. no greyed out entries tho'. has stopped being able to download and install updates (last tuesday's). so, i will do a repair on the weekend as a couple of other issues have cropped up as well. i've never had this problem in 8.1 and didn't experience it until i install windows 10 as the sole OS. weird. the laptop is still dual-boot and no freezing in either OS, as well, the laptop insalled that last update without problems. i may migrate to 10 only on that in a week or two.

The Windows 10 build 1803 was supposed to be released earlier this month. The latest info reports a release date on 4/30/2018.
So if you are planning to download an iso the servers may be busy on the first day or the first few days.

What happens when you use safe mode?

When available please post a beta log collector zip.
