Windows 10: Random Hard Freezes of Entire System Requiring Forced Reboot

I'm experiencing random system freezes where the screen is stuck on the last frame & the audio stutters or buzzes the last played sound. It is completely unresponsive & requires a reset or forced shut down via the reset or power buttons on the tower. Completely random freezing/shutdowns on a system with no recent hardware changes, and hard drive, memory, and PSU fine, usually means a software issue (file corruption or malicious software). I suggest following DavidV's recommendations.

Hrrmmmm... but wouldnt formatting and reinstalling windows fix the issue since the virus/trojan/spyware isnt on the system any longer?

The SoftwareDistribution folder is where the data of Windows Update are stored. You only rename this folder if you're encountering an issue with Windows Update. Since you're not encountering any Windows Update issues, there is no need to rename the SoftwareDistribution
folder.

The Event ID 1101 is occurring when there are too many events being logged in the Security log. Because of the numerous events, your computer cannot handle it and that can be the reason why your computer is freezing. We recommend that you clear files inside
Event Viewer to free up some disk space. To do this follow these steps:

• Search for Event Viewer using the Cortana search bar.
• Select Event Viewer.
• Click File, and the choose Options....
• Select Delete Files.
• Click Apply, and then click OK.
