  1. Random instant switch of background after login on slideshow

I collect the nature background pictures from the windows login picture folder rename them as jpg type and add them to a large collection of pictures I use as my backgrounds nature lover here. I have my background set up as a slideshow to switch slides every 10 minutes. During normal use, this 10 minute rotation seems to work on schedule. However, about 70% of the time when I log into Windows for 1-2 years now..., it will rotate through at least 2 slides before stopping., switching every couple of seconds. It is often slides I haven't seen before that only stay on the screen for a se

  3. Slideshow desktop background not working

Hello DevvratSingh1, Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Seems you encountered an issue about slideshow background not working on your main user account. That can be annoying. I will try my best to help you. Here are my suggestions:

Since the problem seems to be specific to your main user account, it's likely related to user settings or a conflict with the TranslucentTB app. Here are some steps to help you resolve this:

    • Check Background Settings
    1. Right-click on the Desktop and select Personalize.
    2. In the Background section, ensure that Slideshow is selected.
    3. Check the folder path of the pictures you are using for the slideshow. Ensure that the path is correct and accessible.

    • Check Power Settings
    1. Open Control Panel.
    2. Go to Power Options.
    3. Select your power plan and click on Change plan settings.
    4. Click on Change advanced power settings.
    5. Expand Desktop background settings and then Slide show.
    6. Make sure both On battery and Plugged in are set to Available.

    • Reset TranslucentTB Settings
Since the issue might be related to TranslucentTB, try resetting its settings:

    1. Open TranslucentTB.
    2. Navigate to the settings and reset them to default.
    3. Restart your computer and check if the slideshow works.

    • Run System File Checker
Corrupted system files might cause this issue:

    1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
    2. Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
    3. Wait for the process to complete and see if it finds and fixes any issues.
    • Check for Conflicting Apps
Some third-party apps might interfere with the slideshow functionality:

    1. Temporarily disable or uninstall any recent apps or extensions you have installed.
    2. Restart your computer and check if the slideshow works.

    • Create a New User Profile
If none of the above steps work, creating a new user profile might resolve the issue:

    1. Open Settings and go to Accounts.
    2. Go to Family & other users.
    3. Click on Add someone else to this PC.
    4. Follow the prompts to create a new user account.
    5. Log in to the new user account and set up the slideshow background.
    6. If it works, you can migrate your data from the old account to the new one.

    • Registry Edit (Advanced)
If you're comfortable with advanced troubleshooting, you can try editing the registry:

    1. Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
    2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop.
    3. If there is a value named NoChangingWallpaper, delete it or set its value to 0.
    4. Restart your computer.

    • Reinstall TranslucentTB
If the issue started after installing TranslucentTB, you can try reinstalling it:

    1. Uninstall TranslucentTB completely from your system.
    2. Restart your computer and check if the slideshow works.
    3. If it works, try reinstalling TranslucentTB from the Microsoft Store.

I hope it can solve your problem. Thank you for your patience and cooperation!

    Best Regards,

  4. Random instant switch of background after login on slideshow

Windows 11: Desktop background keeps resetting from slideshow to a picture.

    Hi Nicole,

Here are the steps I took per your suggestion.

    1. Make Sure the Theme Isn't Changing Your Wallpaper
      • I created a custom Theme with Background set to Slideshow and Lock Screen to Spotlight.
      • Locked screen and logged back in all good.
      • Rebooted and both reset to Picture.
      • I reset back to Slideshow and Spotlight accordingly.
    2. Turn Off Slideshow in Personalization Settings
      • I set Background to a color and Lock Screen to Picture
      • Restarted system.
      • Settings remained.
      • Reset Background to Slideshow and Screen to Spotlight.
      • Restarted system.
      • Settings remained for the moment.
      • Restarted one more time and Background reverted to Picture & Screen remained at Spotlight.
      • Reset Background to Slideshow.
      • Restarted again.
      • Settings remained for the moment.
      • Restarted again just to validate and settings remained for the moment.
    3. Disable Windows Sync Settings
      • I cannot do this since the factory reset, my account cannot use my Microsoft account only the local. As such, Settings > Accounts > Windows backup > the option to Remember Preferences is grayed out; only available if using Microsoft account.
    4. Use a Local Account
      • I can only use Local Account
    5. Lock the Background Settings
      • This is not an option as, I’m the only user and with Home edition I don’t have Group Policy option.
Status: While running through steps 3-6 my Background reverted to Picture on its own, without me locking screen or restarting system. Mystery remains as to what’s causing this change on its own. I think Microsoft needs to get involved to evaluate this bug. I know I’m not the only one reporting this issue as I have found several articles over the past couple of years on this topic and don’t know why MSFT hasn’t gotten involved yet.
