Random lagspikes on my PC after about a week of inactivity.

Hey, so I didn’t use my PC for a week. Left it in the garage, then came to it again and started playing with it. I would take some breaks now and then but everything was normal. After about the first week I started using it though, I began to experience these annoying lagspikes and I don’t know what could be causing it. My first guess was the dust that built up when I left it in the garage. Checked my CPU usage in Process Hacker when it was lagspiking, it seemed normal when I was gaming. Tried to monitor see whatever program is causing it, but that ended up to no use at all, couldn’t find what

A couple of random BSODs when PC is inactive

    Hello,

I used to have massive problems with my old setup, but thanks to axe0's attention I have fixed it all.

Since then, I've upgraded my rig, and ever since I've got a couple of seemingly random BSOD-s. They seem to happen when PC is left idle. Ie. 30-40 mins of inactivity, I notice my screen light up and a BSOD on the screen. I've also got one or two BSODs when randomly clicking on desktop.

Things I've upgraded: mobo, RAM, PSU. My Win10 install is fresh.

Important note: my Mobo and RAM aren't officially compatible. It's something I didn't notice upon buying the RAM - the mobo doesn't list my RAM as supported. HOWEVER, the RAM was set in BIOS to default values (as on the box) and passed memtest + I've finished a couple games on such setup without any issues or BSODs.

    Log inlcuded.

Please take a look and tell me if something needs a bit of tweaking.

    Random BSOD while browsing internet

BitDefender is nothing special. mwac.sys causes BSODs anywhere.
A tiny documentation can be found here: Solved Random BSODs - Windows 10 Forums
In that very thread, the suggested action apparently worked.

The storage and network filters of any third party antivirus can cause BSODs. Neither MBAM nor BitDefender is any special. For a regular antivirus, it may be shifted to an alternative; but MBAM has no alternative. So a clean install of the said program is the most feasible first step.
As far as the first step is not failing, it is better to not think for the second step. Because the BSODs are not universal, failure at the first step is not universal; and success at the second step is also not universal.
That is why I posted that my suggestion may work, or may not. Let us see where it goes.

Questions on PC inactivity/sleep and power management

Original title: PC inactivity and power management

Can any one help me with a definition of 'inactivity' when used in the context of power management?

Clearly, a Windows 10 PC can be active in response to many events. For example:

    • User input via mouse, keyboard and touch
    • A running process doing things of its own accord - web browser, email client, service etc etc
    • Wake timers
    • Scheduled tasks
    ... and probably many more.

In addition to closing the lid on the laptop causing sleep, I have one of my power management options set to sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity.

But, is there a formal definition of what constitutes inactivity for sleep to kick in? I guess some processes will be ignored, but I am interested to know the rules used by Windows.

    Thanks
