Windows 10: Random PC failure and Boot issues.

So about two weeks ago my PC started acting really weird.


Specs -

FX -4300

4gb ddr3 Ram

1tb Seagate HDD

Asus M5A78L-M LX V2


when in use it would randomly crash and give a BSOD.

after that it would not start up at all.


The only way to start it was to soft reset it until it did, which took about 10 tries.


After that I started getting boot issues as stated -


1. "A Disk Read Error has Occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"


and no matter how many times I did that it won't boot. I looked it up and tried removing that battery and ram. then it started booting up just fine.

now it happens once every two days. and I found out that Re-installing the Ram does the trick almost everytime.


2. Sometimes, after getting through that barrier, the Windows icon would show up and would result in a black screen, that responded to nothing even after 2 hours.


This is resolved by soft resetting about 15 times.


3. After getting through that barrier, sometimes after numerous tries I was able to boot in recovery mode.


the PC would never recover. I tried making a media creation tool. used an ISO file, ran sfc scannow, tried resetting windows from a working boot.


all of it resulted in the same problem. it would fail. and a message along these lines would be displayed "recovery failed. Windows couldn't make changes and no files were changed." the DISM.exe....restorehealth command also fails. the windows installer fails and crashes my PC. booting of USB fails to reset with the same message.


After systematically dodging all the hoops Right now I cannot even reset my windows to fix it.


Sometimes the Disk error would complete but it always came up empty.

The startup disk scanning always fails.


I have tried every perceivable way to fix it but nothing works, every other day my PC fails to boot up to one of these issues. After failing I finally decided to Post myself, hoping for a way to fix this.


Right now If I had to guess a hardware failure either HDD/RAM/MoBo or some combination of these is causing it.

BSOD DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE randomly after cold boot/sleep


For the past month I have been getting random BSOD's all with driver power state failure. They happen randomly, usually within the first 5-10 minutes of cold booting or waking my computer. Steps I have taken to attempt to fix the problem:

1. Reinstalled GPU drivers/ tried old drivers
2. Fresh installed Windows 1803, still happened, then fresh installed 1709
3. Disabled Fast Boot

None of these things fixed the issue, any help would be much appreciated at pinpointing the issue. Thanks

 

Random X99 boot failure

From time to time my X99 WIndows 10 Pro system will simply refuse to boot up initially. For example, it could have functioned perfectly one night, performing like a champ for 4~5 hrs without any crashes. Then after I got back from work the next day I was greeted with constant BSOD during initial start up. It will either crash within minutes of booting up into windows 10, or simply give me a "PFN list corrupt" and enter a BSOD loop. This is totally random, as it would be problem free for an entire week and then crash infinitely the next week.

I did both ASUS realbench stress test and AIDA64 stress test. Both of them check out ~12hrs of stability. Any ideas guys?? Thanks!

 

Random BSOD while browsing internet


BitDefender is nothing special. mwac.sys causes BSODs anywhere.

In that very thread, the suggested action apparently worked.

The storage and network filters of any third party antivirus can cause BSODs. Neither MBAM nor BitDefender is any special. For a regular antivirus, it may be shifted to an alternative; but MBAM has no alternative. So a clean install of the said program is the most feasible first step.
As far as the first step is not failing, it is better to not think for the second step. Because the BSODs are not universal, failure at the first step is not universal; and success at the second step is also not universal.
That is why I posted that my suggestion may work, or may not. Let us see where it goes.
