  1. Random sleeping since latest update

This is my first post on this subreddit, and I’m not entirely sure which flair to use so I hope this is right. Also please excuse my lack of technical understanding, I’m a bit of a newbie at this lol. I’ll try and give some context to the issue I’ve been having below, if anyone could help me I’d be sincerely grateful. I have a Lenovo Ideapad700 laptop.

The other week, Windows BSOD’ed my laptop to force through the latest update- I know it did this, because that day I had turned off and delayed the updates after it gave me a notification saying I needed to install. I deliberately had updates ‘turned off’ after a plethora of issues I began experiencing with Windows 10 after their update in February, which very nearly bricked my whole system and almost caused me to lose all my data.

Anyways, since that February update, it brought back an issue I had previously managed to find a work-around for and ‘fix’; random episodes of my laptop shutting off to sleep. This will occur MULTIPLE times, sometimes within 2-5 minutes, and I cannot even put into words how beyond infuriating this is. Sometimes it will do it multiple times within the hour, sometimes it is staggered. No conventional method I tried again managed to even temporarily fix this problem, and believe me, I have trawled every forum, website, etc. I tried every power setting adjustment in control panel, etc. I saw one forum post with a significant amount of upvotes detail about going into the registry and changing the value of something to 2 (I don’t entirely remember what it was, something in power management), but don’t want to touch the registry without knowing what I’m doing. I even tried taking it to my University’s IT desk but they are clueless. My Dad used to repair laptops and even he doesn’t understand it.

Anyways, I ended up installing a beautiful little app called Don’tSleep to see if that would work, and hurrah!! It seemed to work! I experienced 0 random sleeps in the entire week. It was honestly a gift from heaven.

Until Windows 10 decided to force through the new April update. My laptop now sleeps CONSTANTLY again and I am at my wits end with it. It’s making any form of workflow impossible, and I am a senior animation student working on my final film. I cannot work when my setup shuts off randomly and this frequently. NoSleep no longer seems to be effective, and I have no idea what this update could have POSSIBLY done to render this whole application useless. I tried Caffeine with no results as well. I cannot uninstall the update either- it won’t even let me right click it. In one day I counted 11 episodes of it shutting off to sleep. How on earth has it gone from 0 sleeps in one week to now 11 within the day?!

If anyone knows any advice or is able to help at all, please let me know. It’s impossible to work like this.

My upgraded W10 machine has several issues NOT solved by MS updates.

Does anyone have a solution to these issues that will work?

    Thanks

  3. random restarts

    Hi,

If a Windows computer random restarts, the device usually have some damaged system components. For us to provide an accurate solution, we would need you to answer the following questions:

    • Which build, version and edition of Windows is installed on your computer?
    • What changes have you made to the device before this issue occurred?
    • What troubleshooting steps was already performed to your laptop?

In the meantime, it will be best to make sure that the latest update of Windows is installed on your device. If the same issue happens after installing Windows Update, we suggest running the power troubleshooter. To do so, follow these steps:

    • Open the Control Panel.
    • Using the search bar at the upper-right corner, type troubleshooting.
    • From the search results, click on Troubleshooting and then select System and Security.
    • Click on Power and then follow the prompts to successfully run the tool.

We are looking forward to your response.

    Windows 10 random sleep issues

    Hello Ken,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

As per description, your system is going into random sleep.

The issue could occur if there are incorrect power settings on the computer and also because of incompatible display drivers.

I would appreciate, if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better?

    • What is the make and model of your system?
    • Have you made any recent changes prior to this issue?
    • Do you get any error message/ error code when your system goes to sleep?

I would suggest you to follow the methods given below and check.

    Method 1:

    Run Power Troubleshooter:

I would suggest you to run printer troubleshooter which will tell you if there is something wrong with the printer settings.

Follow these steps to run power troubleshooter.

    • Press Windows key + X key and Select
      Control Panel
    • Select Troubleshooting.
    • Select View All on the top left corner.
    • Run Power and follow the instruction.
If issue still persists try method 2.

    Method 2:

Please follow the below steps to troubleshoot with the issue:

1 . Select “Settings” from the Start menu, then click the “System” option.

    2. Click “Power and Sleep” from the list of options. Make sure that the options under “Sleep” are set to a desired value.

    3. Click “Additional Power Settings” under “Related Settings.” You will be redirected to the control panel.

    4. Select “Change Plan settings” under your chosen power plan. Then click
    “Change advanced power settings”
    from the resulting screen.

    5. On the “Power Options” window, expand each setting to make sure nothing is preventing your computer from going to sleep.

    6. Once you are done, click “Apply” to save your settings. This should fix the problem for you.

If issue didn't get resolved try method 3,

    Method 3:
    Update display drivers.

    a. Press Windows + X, Click
    Device Manager.

    b. Expand Display
    Adapters
    .

    c. Check if the name of the graphic card is the list.

    d. Right click on the Display Adapter’s name and click
    Update.

Refer to article given below to Update the drivers in Windows 10.

How to: Install and Update drivers in Windows 10

Hope this helps. If the issue persists please provide required information and we’ll be glad to assist you.
