Whichever you use don't put much faith in them and keep vigilance like they don't exist. Human mind is still much better than AI.

All the above are safe from known strains.....its the new in the wild that cause problems until a patch can be found then released.

Of course, regular system image backups are always the best protection against future unknown strains. In all the press, they say do a, b, c etc., but they never say the most practical thing any user can do.

I think my way is safer - I don't have anything worth backing up, If I ever need a reload I just wipe the system and start again *Thumbs

It takes me at least couple of days to recover from clean install, 200+ programs and several OSs in VM but no personal data on system disk. To say nothing about re-registering programs.

I have the bitdefender ransomware package as part of the full commercial suite, (not free). If any unknown process attempts to do anything at all to any file in one of my protected areas, then the process is killed and the file is left untouched. So I would have to agree that proactive defence against even zero day exploits is possible, of course I would not expect this sort of protection in a free product. It does have a serious downside, I have all my system set as protected which is very safe, probably too safe. I will normally expect to have to run any new program installer several times to white list new processes that are accessing files during install, these include even the setup temp files. Overkill, maybe, but security is important to me and people I work with

And if you click on a spiked e-mail link?

Nobody in their right mind clicks on email links.

If the result is it tries to download or install, anything then the email protection would block and notify. Security is a multilayer defense system, it starts with me of course, so that me layer would likely catch it before clicking anything *Wink
