RDP / Entra / The local security authority cannot be contacted

Running into an issue trying to connect via Remote Desktop mstsc.exe to some Entra Joined, Windows 11 23H2 systems, using an Azure AD/Entra ID account. The option to "use a web account to sign into the remote computer" is checked and we are prompted for, and authenticate successfully. After authentication, we receive an error stating "An authentication error has occurred. The local security authority cannot be contacted." Entra accounts are able to sign-in locally without issue.Using the same process without the 'Use web account option', we are able to connect to the same host using the bu

[SOLVED] RDP error: The Local Security Authority cannot be contacted

Had Windows 7 machine with problems getting online. I ran tweaking.com and it fixed this. User then reports he cannot RDP with the strange error

    An authentication error has occurred

The Local Security Authority cannot be contacted.

    This error is logged as

The terminal server security layer detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client.

I learned that there are codes to decipher it at the end the error message: 0xC0000192.

This particular code translates to STATUS_NETLOGON_NOT_STARTED, which means the NetLogon service was not started.

It turns out there's a bug in Tweaking.com that doesn't recognize the computer's on a domain in safe mode and sets the NetLogon service to manual.

  3. Local Security Authority protection Bug?

Open an admin Command Prompt and run these two commands:

    • reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa" /v "RunAsPPL" /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f
    • reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa" /v "RunAsPPLBoot" /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f
Restart Windows. That should clear the yellow exclamation warning.

    What I have tried:

I have a HP g4 work station running windows 11 pro logged into my work. I can rdp to it from two separate windows 10 pro computers with no issues that are also logged in with my work account.

I upgraded my main personal Asus work station to windows 11 pro logged in with my personal Microsoft account using mstsc I get the error " local security authority cannot be contacted"

I tried installing the remote desktop store client which can connect to a local account, but I see no way to have it use the Microsoft authenticator required by my work.

I have tried multiple DNS servers external and internal.

I have tried disabling udp connections in rdp

    I have tried disabling nla

I have verified windows firewall has exceptions, and tested with disabled

Also applied suggested gpedit settings to enable rdp

I went through the security admin and enabled everything.

My best guess here is my workstation can't connect to aria to authenticate? Or if I can get the store client to use MFA then maybe that will work.

I also cannot enable Lsa on the workstation due to the hardware limitation? But this is an asus b550 with and58003xd with vt enabled. The Microsoft documentation says I don't need it though.

Any ideas? I have been scoring bing and google all day with no luck.
