Windows 10: RDS CALs Version question

Dear Microsoft,I used to have RDS CALs per device on my Windows Server 2008 R2 terminal server.Now I want to buy new ones and want them to be PER USER.When I contacted the seller in my country, he told me they only haveG7GMGF0D7HX:0009Windows Server 2022 Remote Desktop Services - 1 User CAL, Commercial$145,00And he told me that Windows Server 2022 CALs can't be installed on Windows Server 2008 R2, but only on 2022,2019 and 2016..I am confused, since how I understood from Microsoft page, newer CAL licenses are compatible with older servers. Which is true? I wouldn't want to spend 5000$ on lic

Activate RDS CAL 2019 on Windows Server 2016

Dear Microsoft Support,



We recently purchased Windows Server RDS CAL 2019.

When we tried to install Windows Server RDS CAL 2019 into Windows Server 2016, it shows the license is not recognized and couldn’t install.



My questions are :

1. Can’t Windows RDS CAL 2019 be installed in Windows Server 2016? If can, how?
2. Is there any way to downgrade RDS CAL from 2019 to 2016 version?

RDS CAL downgrade rights under Volume Licensing

Good day everyone!

I would just like to inquire where can I seek assistance for my inquiry regarding RDS CAL, if it has downgrade rights since it is under Volume Licensing?

This is an inquiry from our Partner since they are proposing RDS CAL 2019 licenses but the
existing License Server is Windows 2012 R2 (upon checking the aforementioned Windows Server version and RDS CAL version is not compatible)



We always offer the latest version in the VLSC portal, but we’d like to know if RDS CAL has downgrade rights under Volume Licensing?

RDS CALs

I have Windows server 2019 RDS CALs (User) installed on our license server. I would like to know if I can use these 2019 RDS CALs with server 2016. Is it backward compatible? I can see that the 2016 server has picked up the license server successfully. Just wanted to know if this will work successfully going forward.
