Windows 10: Re-activation windows 10 license after installing new hardware does not show new configuration

Hi,


I have installed new hardware and reinstalled Windows 10.

The activation troubleshooter brings me to the a screen that only shows me the old configuration.


However when I go online to my Microsoft account I see two PC's

The old one

and

The new one


In the screenshot, the left PC is the new one and the right is the old one the one that is shown in the activation troubleshooter





How can I get the New One to appear in the list of devices that I can select as the current one ?

Installing Windows 10 on New PC?

I'm going to be building a new PC on Christmas and want to install Windows 10 on it. I have Windows 10 on my current PC, which I installed upgrading from 8.1 with the files on a USB. How do I go about installing a clean copy of Windows 10 on this new PC? I think I recall something about installing it once makes Microsoft recognize your hardware, but since this will be a PC I'm not sure what steps I need to take. Do I need to go 8.1 -> 10 or is there a method of going directly to 10?

It depends on how Windows 10 was originally configured on your computer.

If its a full retail store bought license online or offline, it is transferable to a new computer or motherboard.

If its the free upgrade from a retail store bought Windows 7 or Windows 8 license, it is transferable to a new computer or motherboard.

If its the free upgrade from a OEM preinstalled Windows 7 or Windows 8 license, it is NOT transferable to a new computer or motherboard.
