Re-install Windows 10 in a LEGACY dual boot setting with Ubuntu in the another partition

Hi there,Recently I feel that my Windows tends to slow down and want to re-install it for another fresh start. I have Ubuntu installed in another parition of my SDD and still want to preserve the Ubuntu's data and Windows' data mostly downloaded contents. The problem is my Windows-Ubuntu dual boot system uses a Legacy BIOS instead of UEFI. My Laptop is Dell Latitude e5450 and the BIOS version is A23.So I'm not sure whether it is a good idea to follow UEFI-based tutorial in installing Windows in a dual boot system with Ubuntu installed first.Any suggestion. I'm open to your answer.Best,Khoa

    :)

Help with dual booting Win 10 and Ubuntu

This is your whole problem. What you should have done is to put GRUB in sdb1 and Windows Manager in sda1 so that Windows Boot Manager is in control.
So what suggested above will not make any difference. GRUB is still in control of booting process.
To fix your problem. You will need to:
    1. Move GRUB from sdb to sdb1
      |grub2 - how to move grub boot from one partition to another in linux - Ask Ubuntu
    2. Rebuild The Windows Boot Manager ie. create a brand new BCD to boot Windows 10.
    3. Once done with steps 1 and 2 above. Windows will not know UBUNTU exists and vice versa.
Depend on the priority set in the BIOS, it will boot directly into that OS.
However, you can boot either one from Boot Menu (Using whatever key that your Laptop assigned to: F2, F10....)
Since I hate Dual Boot and seldom boot into Linux, I will stop here.
Now, go to step 4 to create dual boot.
    4. Use Easy BCD to create an entry for dual boot with UBUNTU. Once done, you should get a nice GUI dual Boot Menu
and it will boot directly into either Windows or UBUNTU.

Here's the detailed explanation: How can I move windows 10 boot files to another drive to allow linux

  3. Dual boot options- Ubuntu and Windows 10

    Original Title[Dual Boot]

I have updated from windows 8.1 to Windows 10 quite recently, now I want to dual boot my laptop Dell Inspiron 3542, with Ubuntu. But the thing I heard all over the Internet is about the UEFI and Legacy Boot modes and mine is in UEFi mode. In the boot options
there is an option to change boot mode from UEFi to Legacy BIOS. Is it safe to do so. Doing so, does it help to dual boot with Ubuntu?

My boot mode is set to: UEFI with Legacy OPROM.

Re-install Windows 10 in a LEGACY dual boot setting with Ubuntu in the another partition

Ubuntu and several Windows partition is not detected in Windows Disk Management | Dual Booting

I have a problem regarding dual-boot installation of Ubuntu. I'm not very familiar on dual-booting but I follow several turtorial to do it. During installation of Ubuntu as dual-boot, I did not choose the option of manually partition, instead i choose the automatically partition and resize it to match the amount of unallocated storage. After installation, it works perfectly fine for both windows and ubuntu. However I found that my Ubuntu and several partition is not detected in Disk Management.

    The steps for installation:

    • Shrink local disk E: (HDD) for unallocated space
    • Bitlocker is disabled
    • Disabled secure boot and fast startup
    • Boot from UEFI USB Ubuntu
    • Install alongside Windows Boot Manager
    • Partition: choose the default installation instead of manually partition (Using manual partition did not detect unallocated space)
    I have 2 storage, SSD (Windows/ Disk 1) and HDD (Several Windows programs and data/ Disk 0). The HDD storage has several partition;

    • Local Disk D: 510.82 GB for some applications
    • Local Disk E: 225.37 GB for data
    • Unallocated: ~195 GB
Even though it works perfectly fine, I'm afraid it will cause issues in the near future, and i want my linux partition and windows data partition to be shown in disk management. Can you please help me on this issue. It also shows Local Disk D and E which has windows applications and data to have red x indicator in disk management.

My idea: my current solution is probably to delete volume for Local Disk D and E to delete Ubuntu and delete several data I have in windows to reinstall ubuntu back using manually partition. However a second opinion or more can be my consideration to not delete my file in windows.

    Thank you for your attention
