Windows 10: Re-installing Windows 10 over Ubuntu

A friend of mine installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my laptop because he thought it would make it faster but I have almost know knowledge of the operating system so its been pretty horrible. I made a boot USB drive using the windows media creation tool and set my toshiba's boot system to boot from the thumbdrive but it just goes right to the linux boot. Should I try a CD instead? I tried asking on their forums but they were pretty unhelpful. Thanks anyone.

You need to select each partition listed in the setup window, when you click (Custom Advance), then click Delete until there is only a single unallocated drive.

Select the single unallocated drive, then click New

This will split it in two

Select the Primary partition then click Next.

If that does not work, at that same window, press shift + F10 to open the command prompt.

type the following commands

DISKPART

Hit Enter

list volume

Next you will select the volume where you would like to install Windows 10

Type: select disk #

# represents the number the volume

Type: clean

convert mbr

create partition primary

active

format quick fs=ntfs

exit

exit

Restart setup then try installing again

I don't know yet about Creation tool versus ISO, will try that later? When you boot into the flash drive, you should see a message asking you to click enter (upper left corner)? If you don't see it, then the ISO image was not made correctly. If you see it (about 4-5 Sec.) and don't click enter, you will run Ubuntu.

 

Thank you for your help, I actually got it taken care of last night. Lots of stuff wrong; had to format my HD for MBR, got the dreaded "this hard drive is locked" message, all kinds of stuff but it is up and running win10 again *Smile thank you!
