Windows 10: re-vitalising older laptops

Hi folks
If you have an older laptop with a slow 2.5 inch HDD and it's nigh on impossible to change the HDD - a method that works really well in fact to really speed up your Windows system is to do the following

1) Create the "Free" way to make a Windows to Go system on to an external SSD device -- I'll post the link (thanks also to @NavyLCDR who suggested the method). Use a USB->SATA adapter for the connection -- preferably USB3 (works brilliantly) but even with a USB2 connection improvment is still definitely worth while.

Note it will do non UEFI systems too --skip to the last post in the thread - then the resulting system will be bootable on both MBR and UEFI systems.

Create Free Windows to Go system on ext USB/SSD disks (UEFI system)

2) boot the device

3) have fun --- I'm using a 500GB SSD as I can even run some VM's on the laptop -- your internal disk can then be used as say backup storage or whatever.

(Another use is to try out various Windows releases without messing up your running system).

Laptop with broken screen How much?

I would like suggestions and look in local stores. I dont wanna buy a laptop from someone online. Sorry. But could be a good idea if you asked him about the performance on older games. Gonna make a list ofall laptops people suggest me.

Remove the screen for space purpose here its small desk and if the screen is opened it will hide my 22 inches lcd

 

New laptop and older external hard drive

The laptop doesn't easily "see" the drive.. when I am in Devices and Printers... the icon for the ext HD will appear for just a few seconds.. if I rightclick on it quickly, it'll show the popup for hardware but doesn't have the info for it... does correctly
refer to it as "USB 2.0 CD + HDD".

I tried your list of steps, but , the HD does NOT ever show in the Disk Management list.

I do have an older Dell that I need to see if it will recognize the HD. I'll try that next.
