  1. Reactivating windows after changing to new motherboard. Old board had a hardware error.

It now says my windows isn't activated and when I hit troubleshoot it just tells me "Unable to activate Windows We can't reactivate Windows as our servers aren't available right now."I am then told to do windows+R and use "slui" but that just brings me to the page where it asks me my windows key BUT I HAVE A DIGITAL PURCHASE. I am extremely frustrated and have gone through every imaginable link and run-around that Microsoft has to throw at me and it all ends back in the same place. What gives?!This is absurd, how is there no phone number to contact windows support? How is there no active chat?

    :)

  2. windows 10 reactivation after hardware change

I just changed motherboards, and When I follow the the steps listed in the "reactivate windows 10 after hardware change" support page, it gives me the message "unable to activate windows" message after I sign in and identify my device,
with no error code, just a subheader that says "can't activate windows 10 on this device, try again later."

  3. win 10 motherboard change, reactivating windows

    Hi Famie,

If you are planning to change your motherboard, you will still be able to activate your Windows 10. In Windows 10 version 1607, there is a feature that you can link your Microsoft account to Windows 10 digital license on your device.
This can help you reactivate Windows using the Activation troubleshooter if you make a significant hardware change later, such as replacing the motherboard.

That being said, we suggest that you follow the steps given on this article
to reactivate your Windows 10 after a hardware change.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

If you think this was useful, do not hesitate to "mark it as an answer" to help those are facing the same problem.

  4. Reactivating windows after changing to new motherboard. Old board had a hardware error.

Will a digital license of windows 10 reactivate if I do a hardware change like change out my processor and motherboard?

    Hi,

the windows activation servers are probably the biggest mystery ever. Reactivating windows after changing to new motherboard. Old board had a hardware error. ;)

    Generally, no. Maybe, yes.

However, if it wont reactivate, here are the steps to reactivate it:

Sign in to your Microsoft account on the old MB/CPU.

Then switch your hardware. After the switch, should windows not be activated, go to:

    Settings>Update & Security>Activation>Troubleshoot.

At some point it should give you the option: "I recently changed my device hardware".

Then, select your old PC (By name or sth) and select "This is this device" or similar.

That should reactivate Windows on the new Motherboard.
