Windows 10: Reactivation after installing Win 11

Following a power supply failure I decided to bring my self-built i7, Win 10 Pro desktop up to Windows 11 standard. It had been running faultlessly for a few years on general applications like Office, Thunderbird, Photoshop, web browsing, and so on, and Windows was activated with a digital license following a free upgrade from Win 7. Win 11 required a new motherboard and cpu, so I fitted an 11th gen i7 to an Asus B760M series board, so far no problems. So I backed up the C drive with Macrium and did the rebuild. On retarting it looked ok still in Win 10 Pro and passed the Win 11 "health ch

Buying a Win 11 pre-installed desktop after using Win 10-home desktop

Hi,

I was previously using a desktop with Win 10-home activated. When Win 11 was available, my desktop machine unfortunately did not qualify for the free upgrade due to its hardware.

I recently bought a Win 11 home pre-installed desktop after my previous machine died. It asks me to activate windows and when I get to the Reactivation portion, clicking then I made significate hardware changes, it lists my old machine with Win 10 that died and asks if it is the current machine I am using. It does not list my actual Win 11 machine that I am using.

What should I do?

My Windows digital license was Win 10-home and I was not able to upgrade due to hardware. I changed to a new set up and the license now does not match with Win 11 edition.

Hi, this is a Windows 11 question. You appear to be referring (though it's not absolutely clear) to a clean install of Win 11. elevenforum.com supports Win 11 - I suggest you register there- you will find many tenforums members there. When you post there, please clarify

That would imply you deleted all partitions of your existing Windows 10 and installed to unallocated space on your disk. Is that correct?

This suggests this is a build customised by HP. Windows normally includes all drivers needed; exceptions can be hardware and features specific to a particular model. There are several threads about not being able to type in search boxes on tenforums with solutions. However, this forum focusses on Win 10. Those threads may help you with that, although you should not be experiencing such problems with a clean install. Feel free to search tenforums for thise threads. Note too your PC is under warranty- so feel free to contact HP support and use their forum.

. Which server? something to do with HP? If so, suggest you refer to HP.

Reactivating Windows 11 after retrieving the motherboard key involves using the original product key or digital license associated with your system.
