  1. Read-only not being removed when applied

EDIT: I AM USING WINDOWS INSIDER AND I CAN'T CHANGE ANY FILES EITHER, NOT JUST THE ONE

I have followed the guides (The only thing I didn't do is enter that one command into Command Prompt because I couldn't figure it out as the guides weren't very helpful), all I could find at least, and I can't find anything! I click on 'no-no read-only', I click apply, I close, I open the properties menu again AND IT STILL HAS READ ONLY! And I am 100% it has read only still because I was changing a game's file to make it work and the game doesn't work.

Thermal paste applied on your GPU / CPU, survey!

You already know what I'm going to say.

    • Cool Silver G4
    • ~9 months
    • As directed first step,
Second step I always install, then immediately uninstall, the HSF to remove the excess TIM. Which generally includes thoroughly cleaning either the processor die and/or the HS mating surface. Only both if I really screwed up and put way too much on, but always at least one or the other. Because it's almost impossible, IMO, to not apply too much TIM on your first try. And you can typically get by easily with half the amount(or ~ whatever is still stuck to the processor die or HSF after removing it). Next step I usually apply a few tiny pin point size dabs in any spots that look like they need more. Then final step, I reinstall the HSF, and call it good.
    • Because it's some seriously good TIM! Best I've ever used. No joke!*Wink Read-only not being removed when applied ;)

The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.

Read-only not being removed when applied

    Remove read only from files

    Hi,

Read-only is a file attribute, or a characteristic that the operating system assigns to a file. Files can be only opened or read with this attribute active. You cannot delete, change, or rename any file that’s been flagged as read-only.

To change the read-only attribute, follow the steps below:

    • Right-click the file or folder icon that you wanted to modify.

    • Remove the check mark by the Read-Only item in the file’s
      Properties
      dialog box.

The attributes are found at the bottom of the General tab.

    • Click Apply then OK.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need further assistance.
