Windows 10: Readonly USB Drive

Hello,

A few days ago, my USB drive was corrupted for an unknown reason. I wasn't able to recover any of the data. Now, the USB is completely unusable, in a RAW state, and every time I try to enter it, a message appears saying that "You need to format the disk in drive D: before you can use it." Then, I tried to format it, but when I clicked start, another message appeared saying "The disk is write protected". I have used DiskPart in CMD to remove the readonly attribute, I have used third-party software to try and disable the write protection, searching the Internet far and wide and trying all solutions have yielded no results, as I still am unable to format the USB. Is there a working solution to this, or is the USB corrupted beyond repair?

How to reformat USB Recovery Drive

Part of the commands and results were missing from the image.

Open adminstrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
diskpart
list disk
select disk #
(replace # with the disk number for the flash drive)
attributes disk clear readonly
exit


If the above steps work then you are set.

Thanks again for helping. Yes, I've found and tried those instructions prior to posting. Nothing seems to work. It is ridiculous that Windows basically trashes a perfectly good USB stick when it creates a recovery disk. Their should be a way to clear it off so you can use it again but I guess not. Probably going to just give up and toss it....they are cheap enough these days.

Method 2: Clear readonly status with Diskpart

In Windows 10, 8, 7 OS, you are also able to run Diskpart in Command Prompt to clear read-only attribute on any partition on your computer. You can follow the tutorial below:

Step 1. Open Command Line and type Diskpart
Step 2. Type list disk
Step 3. Type select disk (disk number)
Step 4. Type attributes disk clear readonly





Then try Clean
