Windows 10: Realtek 8821ae Network Adapter

Since updates last month my Wi-Fi Network Adapter on start up either doesn't start or if it does start it stops working when I am working.


I see that many user of the Realtek 8821ae Network Adapter are having the same problems since microsoft update from Windows 10 1803 to 1903!!!!


I have tried all methods to fix this on the internet but now will have to use an ethernet cable at home and cannot take my loptop out anymore so whilst travelling it is hit and miss regarding use of the internet now!!!!!


On log on to my laptop I select windows + X and open Device Manager. The Network Adapter is not there. Tried uninstall and resart but does nothing. Installed latest driver but still no good. Downloaded the microsoft automatic driver update fix but no good.


Unticked the box on power option to stop windows switching off my Network Adapter if working but still no fix.


The only thing I can do is Log on, log off, log on, log off, log on log off, log on until the Network Adapter starts. Then some days it works without problem but on other days it just switches itself off.


I see from a thread of 2018 others here have reported the problem and as now January 2020 I hope someone knows what the fix is?


Finally, my wife's Acer laptop has the same Windows 10 1903 and updates as mine but a different Wi-Fi adapter and has no problems.

Unable to update Network adapter.

No drivers are installed for network adapter Realtek 8821AE Wireless LAN 802.11ac PCI-E NIC.

When clicked on update it got stuck installing the software.

 

How to Dump Networking Parameters?


Had a customer with this problem, they had a brand new Dell Optiplex 3050, with Windows 10 1709, and Realtek Gbit Family of lan adapters (wired connection). After much troubleshooting (many suggestions listed in the course of this thread), it turned out the PC needed a bios update. Among the updates listed on the dell website for bios version 1.52 (I flashed it with the latest 1.92) was "Update RealtekLOM".

LOM is "lan on motherboard" and the Realtek has flashable firmware.

One step for others having this issue is to check their computer manufacturer's website for "Lom" firmware updates for the particular network adapter - whether integrated or an add-in.
