Windows 10: Realtek Audio Line In blue detected as Microphone, Breaks Audio and Forces System Restore...

With the newest iterations of Windows 10 my onboard Realtek HD Audio "Line In" input blue 3.5mm audio input is detected as a microphone. I know this because of the Microphone icon appears in the tray when I plug it in and disappears when I unplug it. I have NO microphone plugged into my PC at all. I use the audio input to listen to my stereo receiver mainly LPs while computing. The sound outputs via my NVidia RTX2070 HDMI High Definition Audio to my monitor which has a soundbar attached via optical. This setup worked flawlessly until recent Windows 10 updates introduced the microphone always on with the icon feature. The blue 3.5mm onboard Realtek HD Audio Input is the only Realtek input/output port in use. No microphone is plugged into either rear or front pink microphone input port.


With this new "microphone" situation, any website browsed to can activate the microphone which I don't have as stated. One site of note is Netflix. If I go to one of these sites that wants to activate my microphone that I don't have:


1 my display blacks out for a second, then comes back on with a notification that the site has accessed my microphone.


2 my music that I was playing through my Realtek Audio Line In goes silent.


From that point on I cannot get my Audio In music to play through my soundbar. The Audio Line In is working because the audio meter in the Sound settings is still pulsing. No reboots nor enabling and disabling Sound settings can get the "Line In" sound playing back to the soundbar. System sounds and web site videos can still be heard.


Essentially a microphone that I don't have event breaks the Line In audio from being "heard" from that point on. The only way I have figured to get the ability to hear my receiver on my PC out to my soundbar is to run System Restore to my last restore point.


Is there a workaround? The blue Realtek Audio Line In should not be detected as a microphone and utilized as such. This needs to be fixed ASAP!

I am using a microphone through a USB audio interface device (a Steinberg UR 22). As such my system recognizes the microphone input as line-in. This is a problem because I need to be able to enhance the audio, such as is possible with
mic boosting options etc. However, there are no such options for line-in audio. This is a very expensive set up, but my system reacts to it as a very quiet mono for no reason I can decipher. All attempts to deal with any drivers, updated, troubleshooters and
settings have so far proven insufficient. Please help.

I understand that you are facing an issue where the Steinberg UR 22 USB audio interface is being recognized as a Line In by the Windows.

I would suggest you to refer the article on
UR22 audio interface by Steinberg and check if it is helpful to you.

However, as the device is connected to the system through the USB and the microphone is being recognized, there could be some changes required in the settings with respect to Steinberg UR 22. Hence I would suggest you to contact
the
Steinberg Support to get a confirmation on this.

External microphone really quiet (Realtek HD Audio-Manager)

I have a problem with the Realtek HD Audio-Manager. I bought a new headset a few days ago. It is working fine on the Playstation, tablet and on my mobile phone. However on my Notebook it is very quiet.

I plugged it in but the I think the Realtek HD Audio-Manager puts the internal microphone and my external microphone into one microphone array (well, that's what at least is showing in the system settings).

So even though I set every audio setting to maximum, the microphone is still very quiet. I also updated the drivers and reinstalled the Realtek HD Audio-Manager.

Once when I deinstalled the Realtek HD Audio-Manager and I tried the troubleshooting it somehow worked fine for a few seconds. But then it reinstalled Realtek HD-Audio-Manager automatically and the microphone was quiet once again.
