Windows 10: Realtek PCI GbE Ethernet adapter problem

How to reinstall a missing Realtek ethernet adapter Dell 2020

We recently have installed fiber optics in our house. We have two All in one Dell 2020's running windows 10. One PC connects to the internet readily, the other one doesn't connect. Inspection of the Device Manager listings show that the successful PC has a Realtek adapter, the other one has no ethernet adapter listed.

I read the 2017 thread discussing the same problem, but the answers don't offer much help.

It would seem like an obvious procedure would be to download the driver from Realtek, which I did successfully, but it sits in the download file and never shows up in Device Manager.

Am I missing the critical step of moving the driver from the download file to the Device Manager, or should that have been a built-in step to the download process?

I have tried doing the restore legacy hardware step with a right click on the Device Manager, but none of the available are supported by this PC (Realtek is not a candidate in this process).

BTW, Realtek came with the original system. The name is realtek PCLe GBE Family Controller

I had a similar problem and had tried all the suggestions about re-installing drivers etc. In the end I stumbled on this which worked: I disabled Green Ethernet in the advanced settings of the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Properties.
