Realtek PCIe CardReader blocked in 14393

HP Compaq Presario CQ57 422SA upgraded on Insider builds with no driver problems until 14393:

    ca) July 2012 originally with OEM Windows 7 Home Premium 64 > retail Windows 8 Pro > Windows 8.1 Pro > Windows 10 Insider 10586 >>many upgrades >> 14388 > 14393

    now shows:

    Driver is "...blocked from starting..."

AFAIK, all previous Windows 10 builds were using the HP updated driver for Windows 10 build 10240:

    sp75104.exe 10.0.10240.28159 2015-10-16 17.95 MB XP,VISTA,WIN7,WIN8,WIN10/64bits
This HP driver from 10.0.10240 seems unavailable now.

    Any ideas please?

    :)

Realtek PCIE Card Reader No Longer Functions After Fall Creator Update 1709

Try the following in the Device Manager :

Right-click the "Realtek PCIE CardReader" > Disable device and proceed to disable the device.

Then right-click the "Realtek PCIE CardReader" > Enable device and proceed to enable the device.

After doing that, I still get the orange triangle.

Even more confusing on rebooting, I see:

The Windows 7 driver has been installed, without error or warning in Device Manager, but has not been started due to potential unstability.

In the Device Manager, right click the Realtek Card Reader for Windows 7 and Uninstall it.
Then go to the HP drivers site for your model, HP Software and Driver Downloads for HP Printers, Laptops, Desktops and More | HP® Customer Support
choose Windows 8 as your OS, and under Driver-Storage download the Realtek Card Bus driver for Windows 8. when you run it, it unzips to a destination on your C: drive, take note of it. If the install Fails, Browse to the location where the driver unzipped to, open the driver folder and Right click Setup.exe and choose Properties/Compatibility. Choose to run it in Windows 8 Compatibility Mode.

Thanks spunk, following your instructions, I now have the Windows 8 driver:

    - but it still has the same instability warning as for the Windows 7 driver, and is not loaded, and as before, it cannot be updated.

I know there is a Windows 10 driver - since it has been used by the Insider versions I have run previously on this laptop.

So I visited Realtek (Realtek), since HP had no Windows 10 drivers (for this laptop), and downloaded and installed their current Windows driver:

    Finally!
