Realtek USB Audio Surround Sound Issue / Missing Event "Device not started: RtkUsbAD_2328"

I'm trying to diagnose a strange issue with my audio from a newly purchased Asus B650e-i Motherboard. Specifically with the S/PDIF connection to a 5.1 Logitech Z906 surround system. The audio works just fine but the only available configuration is 2-channel stereo. The "Configuration" button in "Control Panel" for the "Realtek Digital Output" is greyed out and the dropdown list in "Properies" doesen't list anything other then Stereo 2-channel options at various Hz.I had every related driver manually uninstalled and made sure there was no audio device left in the Devices list and then installed

    :)

  2. Realtek Surround Sound issue in Windows 11 Home 22H2 22621.2134

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

To resolve the issue with Realtek Surround Sound in Windows 11, you can try the following steps:

    1. Download and install the latest Realtek audio driver: Visit the Realtek website or your laptop manufacturer's website to download and install the latest audio driver compatible with Windows 11. Make sure to download the driver specific to your audio chipset.
    2. Configure audio settings in Realtek Audio Manager: Once the driver is installed, locate the Realtek Audio Manager on your system. It is usually accessible by right-clicking on the speaker icon in the taskbar and selecting "Open Sound settings" or "Sound settings." In the Realtek Audio Manager, navigate to the Speaker Configuration or Audio Settings section. Ensure that the speaker configuration is set to 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound.
    3. Enable surround sound in Windows Sound settings: Open the Windows Sound settings by right-clicking on the speaker icon in the taskbar and selecting "Open Sound settings" or "Sound settings." In the Sound settings window, click on the "Device properties" link under the output device. In the device properties window, click on the "Additional device properties" link. In the speaker properties window, navigate to the "Spatial sound" tab and select "Windows Sonic for Headphones" or "Dolby Atmos for Headphones" if available. This will enable virtual surround sound for your audio output.
    4. Test surround sound configuration: To test if surround sound is working correctly, right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Open Sound settings" or "Sound settings." In the Sound settings window, click on the "Device properties" link under the output device. In the device properties window, click on the "Additional device properties" link. In the speaker properties window, click on the "Configure" button. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up and test your surround sound configuration.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to check if there are any firmware updates available for your audio chipset or consult the support documentation provided by your laptop manufacturer for further assistance.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.

  3. No sound. Realtek entry is missing from Device Manager

    .
My sound is now back to normal:

Here's a brief summary of all my actions:

    • None.

I wasn't offered any Windows updates, but I notice an unsolicited update for yesterday so maybe that fixed everything:

Issues with 5.1 Surround Sound with Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community Forums.

What is the make and model of the computer?

Which audio driver are you using?

In order to output 5.1 surround sound, the sound card and the audio device (Speakers) must have 5.1 support and not all sound cards are configured to output 5.1 surround signal. Also, as you have mentioned that there could be compatibility issues where
the audio drivers may not be fully supported on Windows 10?

If the sound card supports, and is configured to output 5.1 surround signal, please ensure that the computer is set up properly to output the signal.

    • Open the Run dialog box by pressing the
      Windows key and R together.
    • Type mmsys.cpl and hit the Enter key to open the
      Sound control panel.
    • Under Playback tab, right click on the audio device (speaker) and select
      Set default.
    • Click on the Configure button to launch the device (speaker) setup window.
    • Click the dropdown list under Audio channels and select
      5.1 Surround and click Next.
    • Check the boxes Center, Subwoofer and
      Side pair and click Next.
    • Click Finish once the configuration completes.

Sometimes, the outdated, missing or corrupted audio drivers can also cause problems in 5.1 surround output. So, I would also suggest to update the audio drivers or uninstall/reinstall the audio driver if it the latest version of the driver is already
installed. Please refer to the article below.

    Update drivers in Windows 10

You may also try installing the High Definition Audio Device driver
and see if that makes any difference. Please refer to the steps for uninstalling and reinstalling drivers under section

    We await your response.
