I just want to turn off thumbail on icon not on images. Is that possible ?

Can you tell me where I find .reg files on seven and ten forums because I like .reg click and ready to go. *Smile

I'm afraid that thumbnail previews is a global setting that affects both the folders and image files. There's not a setting to turn it off for only one of them. *Sad

Hello mosesx, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Because the method here is just more thorough for clearing the icon cache which helps to make it work better. *Wink

    Hi Shawn *Smile

I have been using your bat file, from the seveforums days, to Rebuild the Icon Cache.
In Windows 10, MS seems to have added all those iconcache_*.db that also need to be deleted.... That's where the problem starts with the script.
Running the bat from your first post, as admin of course, the following files get an "Access is denied" message and are not deleted.

    • iconcache_16.db
    • iconcache_256.db
    • iconcache_48.db
    • iconcache_idx.db

If I restart the PC (by pressing y) and immediately after boot run the script again, this second time around seems to be working. i.e. no "Access is denied" to any file. It gets a little annoying to have to run the script twice (which means 2 reboots) to get the job done.

    Any ideas?

    Hello Dimitri,*Smile

I'll look into it and do some testing later tonight to see if I can come up with something to help with this.

    Dimitri,

Does it sort your icon cache issue even without those few .db files deleted?

For now, you can right click on the .bat file, and click on "Run as administrator" to have it delete them without the "access denied" for those few files.

Yes it seems it does clear the cache.

I think that although it doesn't delete them at bat runtime, it deletes them upon boot...but needs to be investigated more.
I'll try to check it and get back to you.

Hi. I've tried everything that is on this thread. But nothing is working. I've restarted my computer so many times. Most the icons are there. But not all of them. And most of the folders in the "All Apps" section opens, just not all of them. Is it possible that I might have to restart my computer a few more times? Just wondering.

Not sure if you can see it. But some icons have weird names on them. And in the "All Apps" section, there is a small section called "Others", which I never had before. So... Not sure what had happened when I had done what it said in this thread.

I'm afraid this isn't an issue with your icon cache. Instead, it shows your apps are broken. This usually happens when the PowerShell command to repair all apps had been used. There's a bug with this command that breaks them right now.

You can do a repair install to fix them without losing anything though.

Oh... Ok. But if I do this "repair install", will I lose any files or any apps I have installed?

And what if I didn't want to do this "repair install", there's no other way to fix those weird names on the apps?
