  2. Is upgradation of mobile to windows 10 necessary?

As we announced earlier this year, for the first time ever, we are offering the full versions of Windows 10 Home, Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 Pro as a free and easy upgrade for qualifying Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1
devices that upgrade in the first year after launch.

Thanks for the info, makes it a bit clearer to me about upgrades

Dumb question, but what are VL Upgrades (volume licensing?)

just not sure about after the first year, it's via a boxed version only, so no online upgrade, does the VL Upgrade relate to home users?

That's correct. VL = Volume license for Enterprise

Nope. VL wouldn't apply to home users with a retail or OEM license instead.

I'm glad I'm using Windows 7 Pro now, as it looks like I'll be upgraded to 10 Pro and will be able to control when I get the updates (I hope).

Just having Pro may not be enough to have control over updates, you may also need to have access to Windows Update For Business. Looking at several articles on this I get the impression that Consumers won't get a choice and Enterprise customers will. I could be wrong but that's what it sounds like to me.

    What does that mean exactly?

  11. It means Windows 10 is free on that device until it reaches end of life and dies. There will be no fee's for updates after the 12 month period expires.

EDIT: I also interpret that to mean, that when that device dies, the license for Windows 10 tied to that device dies with it.
