Windows 10: receiving multiple update patches...is this normal?

been receiving a lot of patches recently. some as small as 245kb all the way to 300mb.. i was maybe suspecting it has something to do with using a new driver updater called "driver easy" maybe not.. is this normal? and another question is, where in the pc can i view recent installed patches*Shock

I was able to find a solution that works, I found a post of a person and multiple people that confirm that it works for them too

please test it and let me know.

open cmd as administrator

run the following command:

sc config trustedinstaller start=auto

go the Windows update and click on restart to complete the patch install

your computer will restart then when you login do not touch anything it will automatically reboot and install the patch at 100%

go to Windows update and run check for updates again

you will no longer receive the failed update.

Is a known issue with the latest (februari) Patch Tuesday update. Is noted in the release notes and also here at the community multiple times in various threads

It should be fixed in the coming patch Tuesday release (hopefully)

 

Can't comment on Driver Easy as I really don't believe in these types of products. I find not having control on drivers inevitably leads to issues and unless they are broke I don't update. My opinion.

Open settings, click on Update and Security, third line underneath title "Update Status" is update history.

 

since ive already used driver easy to update some drivers..is it safe to uninstall it now? iam thinking what you said in your reply..i rather rely on windows update service

 

Yeah, sure, just uninstall it as cleanly as possible, with Revo uninstaller, I had that "driver easy" leave a mess in registry.

 

For the record I don't let Windows update my drivers either. Updating drivers on the latest and greatest hardware may be fine but I find, again one man's opinion, on the older gear it just leads to heart break. Yes at some point a driver may cause issues and I update it. Others like video I update when I'm ready, backup, Image and restore point in hand.

I let Windows update Windows software which I think that is a good way to go but of course, if you apply patches to 300 million machines with countless combinations of hardware and software some of these are going to fail. That is where OS Imaging and Macrium Reflect come to the rescue.

To shut off Window driver updates... (This processes is reversible by clicking Yes instead of no.)

Stop Windows Updating Drivers
Right click on Windows Start
Click on Control Panel
Click on System and Security
Click on System
Click on Advance system settings
Click on Hardware tab
Click on Device Installation Settings
Click on No
A menu appears (first time) click Never Install driver software.
You may get a warning. Click the option that says I’ll take care of it (not exact words)

 

Doesn't that also kill discovering new HW and installing drivers for it ? I have a lot of older HW which I couldn't find drivers for otherwise.

 

Interesting point. It likely does and I will have to investigate. I usually disable after I'm up and running. Agree old divers are hard to get from "Reliable" sources.

What I trying to avoid is the new driver that has been developed for some new architecture that my old machine doesn't have. I know the vendors do some testing but highly unlikely anyone goes back and does extensive testing.

I like it the way W10 finds drivers for new HW and installs them fast if connected to internet. There's a lot of HW that goes thru my hands so it's a handy feature.

 

thx for the input gents. ive uninstalled driver easy. ill probaley wont turn off update because never know i may need a patch or what not.
