  1. Recent feature update 29th March causing black screen on boot after hibernate/sleep

    Hi,

I've been having an issue with Windows after the recent feature update which happened a few days ago 29th of March. My laptop is an MSI GL62 6QD. Usually, I utilise the hibernate/sleep feature a lot, but after the update, whenever I try to turn on/wake up my laptop, after the loading animation disappears, I am greeted with a completely black screen, and the computer does not respond to any key combinations including but not limited to CTRL+ALT+DELETE, CTRL+SHIFT+ESC, CTRL+SHIFT+WIN+B. Sometimes the mouse cursor appears on the black screen as well, but it is also completely frozen and will not respond. Even the caps lock/num lock indicator lights freeze. The only option is to force shutdown the laptop, and after turning it back on it boots to . I have confirmed this is an issue with the recent update, as after uninstalling the update, hibernating/sleeping works fine without any issues. I have lost quite a bit of important work because of this issue too.

Any help with this would be appreciated. Until I can get this fixed, I may have to remain on my current version of Windows.

    Thanks in advance.

    :)

  2. Hibernation and Sleep not working on my WIndows 10 PC after latest update

    Hello,

There are many possible reasons for this hibernation and sleep not working issue. The most common causes are
corrupted Power settings or outdated display drivers. In order for us to efficiently assist you with your concern regarding the issue of waking up from sleep/hibernation, we just have a few questions for you:

    • Have you made any recent changes to your computer prior to the issue?
    • Did you get any error messages upon waking up your computer from hibernation/sleep?
    • Have you also tried performing the power troubleshooter?
If you still haven't, we suggest trying the steps below:

    • Press Windows key + W and type Troubleshooting.
    • Select Troubleshooting and click on System and Security.
    • Click on Power and follow the onscreen steps.

Delete the current power plan and create it again.

We're looking forward to your reply.

Windows Feature Update Causes Black Screen

    Hi,

Some time ago, my laptop wanted to perform a Windows feature update. After the update, when I tried to sign in, Windows took me to a black screen. I could see a cursor and a box in the corner labeled Personalized Settings but nothing else worked. I tried
looking up the issue to find a solution, but I couldn't follow any of the suggestions because I couldn't open task manager or anything else. I ended up rebooting into safe mode and removing the latest update and after that my laptop worked fine and I forgot
    about the failed update attempt.

Fast forward to a couple days ago when my laptop again wanted to restart and update, and I let it do so and then experienced almost the exact same black screen issue. This time, there was no box labeled personalized settings, instead just a black screen
with a cursor and an inability to do anything at all except shut my laptop back down. I experienced the black screen issue after signing in, but the sign-in screen itself seemed to be having errors as it displayed only a blue screen rather than the usual backgrounds.
I also tried signing in on safe mode but still experience the black screen issue there. In the end, I again removed the most recent feature update in order to use my laptop.

Windows still wants to update, as apparently I am running an older version that's nearing the end of service, showing: Feature update to Windows 10, version 1909 as the pending update.

I would like to update Windows so that I can run a more recent version, but I have no idea what has been causing the black screen issue and no idea how to fix it. All the suggestions and possible solutions I have found in researching the issue require me
to be able to take steps that are impossible when I have the black screen, as nothing runs or, if it does run, it's not visible to me.

Can anyone provide me insight into what is causing the problem and if there's anything I can do to prevent the issue from occurring again the next time I try to install the update?

    Thank you.

Recent feature update 29th March causing black screen on boot after hibernate/sleep

    Sleep,hibernate, and shutdown

    Hi,

Usually, Sleep and Hibernate features are used to save power when using a computer. However, hibernate may not be available for all PCs as it was designed for laptops. Regarding your concern, since you’re trying to turn
off or disable these features, you may follow the step below:

    • To turn off Sleep:

Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep. Then, select
Never from the drop-down list under the Sleep section.

    • To disable Hibernate:
    • Type Command Prompt in the Search box from
      Start
      .
    • Right-click on it, then select Run as administrator.
    • In the Command Prompt window, type powercfg.exe /hibernate off and press
      Enter. Close the window.
