Windows 10: Recent microsoft security updates have blocked remote user access to our server.

We are running a Windows 10 based server with 6-8 users. For about a year now , any periodic updates that include a "Security Update" disables the multiple user ability. We have a Visual Basic based program that all employees need to log into. We have 4-6 users in the program at any time. when the security update is re-installed the program can only be accessed by one user at a time as the Server. where logging in as any user knocks the last user out of the system. If we uninstall the security update from the server, remote user access is regained for all multiple users. How do we fix the sec

Ways to use ACLs to block remote network access?


Hi all,

Just wondering if there are any ways to block remote system access from unauthorised parties by using ACLs?

Is Windows 10 configured with vulnerabilities in the ACL SID list? i.e. Are some of the SIDs found under the 'User, Group or Built-In Security Principal' list designed as remote access methods for users who want to connect to a Win 10 machine remotely?

Would appreciate some clarification on this as there are a lot of SIDs under "Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner (Change) > Advanced... > Find Now"

Windows Security - Controlled Folder Access - Recently Blocked App List

I thank you for your response. I know how to add and remove apps to and from the controlled folder access. My question is how to remove an app from the "Recently Blocked Apps" list. In Windows 1809 they made it easier to add apps to the controlled folder
access without having to navigate to the exe. They added a Recently Blocked Apps list you can select from. The steps for Windows 1809 are:

1. Open the Windows Security and click/tap on the Virus & threat protection icon.

2. Click/tap on the Manage ransomware protection link under the Ransomware protection section.

3. Click/tap on the Allow an app through Controlled folder access link.

4. Click/tap on Yes when prompted by UAC to approve.

5. Click/tap on Add an Allowed App (+) sign

6. Click or tap Recently Blocked Apps from the drop down menu. (NEW)

7. Click or tap on the (+) button for the app you want to add from the list. (NEW)

It is this Recently Blocked Folders List I am trying to edit to remove apps I have not authorized and that have been deleted from my PC and are still in this list. I know you can select an allowed app from the controlled folder access list and you will
see a REMOVE button, which in 1809 will put the app back in the Recently Blocked Apps list if it was there originally. But that same process does not work on the Blocked Apps list.

My question still remains:

How do you delete an app from the "Recently Blocked Apps" list in Windows Security for Windows 1809?

 

Unable to access server via remote desktop after router change

Hi,

I manage my home theatre and music servers via remote desktop. Both have wired connections to the router.

All has been well for many years.

Recently our old modem/router was replaced with a new one. There have been no other changes.

While I can still remote into the home theatre server I am no longer able to remote into the music server:

Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer....

What I can do is:

• ping the music server
• bring up shares on the music server on another computer
• access the music server using TeamViewer

Does anyone have any suggestions how I can use remote desktop to manage my music server again please?
