Recently installed Windows 10, cannot scroll on touchpad and pc much

My laptop did an automatic upgradeto Windows 10 Home recently; formerly it was Windows 7 Home Premium.
Since thischange, the touch pad (HP G56) will not scroll on any document or web page.
When I attempt to update thedriver I am told it is up to date and also that the device is working properly.
The lap top is out of warrantyso HP will not offer any advice.
I also get regular warning of high memory usagewhich I have never seen before. The laptop is also a lot slower in respondingto web browsing, reading email and just about everything else.
I’m not prepared to upgrade my RAM just tosatisfy speeding up processes as all was just fine before the upgrade.
    Any suggestions please?

    :)

    Hi John,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused with Windows 10.

You may follow the below methods and check.

Method 1: For issue with Touchpad, let us run Hardware and Devices troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Hardware and Devices troubleshooter checks for common problems and makes sure that any new device or hardware connected to your PC is installed correctly.

    • Type troubleshooting in the search bar.
    • Select Troubleshooting.
    • Select View all on the top left corner.
    • Click on Hardware and Devices.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions.
Method 2: For issue with slow performance on the computer, let’s run System Maintenance by following the below steps and check.

    1. In the Search option of the taskbar type "Troubleshooting" and click on it.

    2. Locate “System and Security" and click on "Run Maintenance Task".

Hope the information helps. Do reply if you need further assistance.

    Thank you.

  4. Recently installed Windows 10, cannot scroll on touchpad and pc much

I had the same problem with my ultrabook when I clean-installed 10 Enterprise. The touchpad and touchscreen didn't work at all. Then, some time later, while I was manually installing drivers and Windows Updates, they suddenly worked.

My only real suggestion would be to back up your important files, do a clean install (not upgrade), then grab your drivers from your PC manufacturer's website (if they are 10-compatible, if not then find other sources). Once you've finished that then update Windows, it may also grab any other drivers you're missing.

Sometimes upgrading can drag in unneeded baggage and break things that were working before.

If you don't want to reinstall, you can try grabbing the Windows 10 versions of the Synaptics drivers from their website and see if that fixes your scrolling.

It is also possible that your laptop is simply a bit old and isn't quite fully optimal to run 10. It can be done, but you may have a hard time with finding correct drivers and other issues. Your hardware may be better off with 7, it's older and more stable but uses a bit more resources than 10. Chances are that, since your laptop is out of warranty, the drivers on HP's website for your model are for 7 only. You can try reinstalling 7, then turn off the automatic updates so it won't auto-upgrade to 10 again. It shouldn't be auto-upgrading you in any case, Microsoft is wrong to try force 10 onto 7 users that may or may not want it, if that is indeed what they're doing. There were confirmed cases of this happening late last year, but MS said they fixed the problem.

Your RAM certainly isn't the cause of your mouse issues, but upgrading it is super-cheap and will improve performance.

    Hope this helped!

Hi, if you can add your laptop type to your specifications, that would help.

If it's not approved for use with Win 10, it's usually not worth trying, unless you do it purely as an experiment having first made a complete image of your previous OS so you can restore it precisely as was after trying a clean install of Win 10. (At least, that's how I'd try it to avoid unnecessary difficulty).

If you can check that on HP's site, that would be good.

Beyond that, please post screenshots of your task manager - click the CPU tab then create the screenshot, click the Disk tab then create the 2nd screenshot, and upload using the icon above to the left of the video icon. This should show if there are obvious issues with CPU usage or disk usage.

Its the drivers, and you need to go to HP's site for your model, and grab the windows 7 driver in the flavor that you need (x32/x64).

My DV7 is perfectly fine with 10, but needs the older Synaptics driver to get full touchpad capability.

As for RAM, you can upgrade, but also, if it just finished upgrading, it may be doing a myraid of other tasks to finish up taking up memory, unless you wish to list what processes are running at that time from task manager, it's all guesswork.

What I want to do is ditch Windows 10 and revert back to Windows 7. Keeping W10 is not an option I wish to consider.
As said, I do not see why I should spend a lot of money on increasing RAM just to satisfy the failings of Windows 10.
I heard a lot of people were dissatisfied with W10 shortly after it was sold on the market, is this why Microsoft have been giving it away, because it's trash and was never worth buying?
