Windows 10: recently updated HP laptop brightness keys won't work

I updated by HP elitebook from the 1709 version to the 1809 version of windows 10 and the screen brightness keys (F3 and F4) do not work. They worked prior to the update and I have no reason to believe that they suddenly broke as the backlight behind them still works and all the rest of the keys on the top row still work.

Even if I go to the display settings and adjust the brightness from there, the screen brightness only makes minor changes in brightness when I change it from 0 to 100.

From searching for similar problems others have had, I have already tried doing the following:

1) Search for Device Manager in Start Menu
2) Expand the Monitors section
3) Right click on Generic PnP Monitor and
4) Click on Enable

But my generic PnP Monitor is already enabled.

I also tried restarting my laptop.

Hp laptop screen won’t display except occasionally

I would like to note that step 20 comes up with no files. Perhaps this could be the source of the issues?

 

Function key will not work correctly when setting up brightness.

Sorry for the delay in response.

• What is the make and model of the computer?
• Do you face the issue with only brightness?

The special keys like Fn key with the options to change brightness or to reduce sound are provided by the laptop manufacturer.

We would suggest you to update or download the software from the computer manufacturer website.

 

Brightness keys not working

Hi, I am using Hp probook 440 win 10 pro (64) and my functioning keys for brightness are not working? I have installed the drivers from hp store but still issue. Any suggestion please.
