Windows 10: Recently upgraded to Win 11 and on 2/11/2022 my PC made an update KB5010386

every since I have not been able to open the volume and wi fi menu from the taskbar at the right bottom corner where the clock and date is located also on the start menu the WINDOWS icon I am unable to use the sear bar function as when I try to click to start typing, the entire menu disappears or even the search function on the taskbar at all it also disappears. I saw a video on youtube advising to uninstall the latest update that I might think is causing the problem but I can't even do that either! it has been hours and the uninstallation is stuck.

How to hide Win 11 upgrade option

Some of our users, on their domain-joined workstations, with Win 10 Pro 21H2 are seeing the option to upgrade to Windows 11 and are asking whether they should click 'Download and install'. I need to make this go away for the time being.




I am aware of some tutorials out there that suggest to set 'Select the target Feature Update version' to 21H1 or 21H2 in group policy under Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Windows Update for Business.

The question is: Will this actually get rid of the 'Download and install' button once the button is already displayed to the user (in Settings \ Update & Security \ Windows Update)?

I am also aware that in theory I should be able to disable the TPM in BIOS but that is impractical. It should be a software solution.

Thank you. I will test setting one key (target feature update) and deleting the other (TargetVersionUpgradeExperienceIndicators).

There seem to be two different messages that can be displayed once Windows determines that it can upgrade to Windows 11. The first message is in my original post. The other message merely informs about Win 11 compatibility but does not offer a download. I assume in the first case, the computer model is successfully queried against a database of compatible devices and in the second case the computer meets the requirements but is not in the database.

This is what I am getting in a Hyper-V generation 2 virtual machine.
