Windows 10: Recommendations for S/W to remote operate Windows 11 PC with Windows 11 Laptop

This has just been sprung on me, so I haven’t had time to do independent research. An injury is going to prevent me from accessing my home office for a month or so. I am going to acquire a Win 11 laptop to use in the interim. I have great Wifi throughout the house.Looking for recommendations for some remote software that would enable file management on the PC from the laptop. The current concept is be able to move files into One Drive as needed, but then perform all editing on the laptop. New to this, so the “concept” may change over time. Don’t want to spend a fortune.

How to remotely access my Windows 11 pc from a Windows 7 pc

To remotely access your Windows 11 PC from a Windows 7 PC, you can use the Remote Desktop feature. Here are the steps to follow:



1. On your Windows 11 PC, go to Settings > System > Remote Desktop and turn on the toggle switch for "Enable Remote Desktop."



2. Note down the PC name or IP address of your Windows 11 PC. You can find this information under the "PC name" section on the same Remote Desktop settings page.



3. On your Windows 7 PC, click on the Start menu and search for "Remote Desktop Connection."



4. Open the Remote Desktop Connection app and enter the PC name or IP address of your Windows 11 PC in the "Computer" field.



5. Click on "Connect" and enter your Windows 11 PC's username and password when prompted.



6. You should now be able to access your Windows 11 PC remotely from your Windows 7 PC.



Note that both PCs need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network for this to work. Also, make sure that Remote Desktop is allowed through the Windows Firewall on your Windows 11 PC.

Upgrade to Windows 11

I want to upgrade my OS from Windows 10 to Windows 11. I have run the compatibility software and got the message that says my Windows 10 software is not compatible with upgrading to Windows 11. I'm looking for a point & click application that will make my Windows 10 OS upgradable to Windows 11 or a file that will provide step-by-step instructions on how to accomplish the upgrade to Windows 11. I expect a list of files/applications that will not run in Windows 11 because my PC is not capable of running the new applications w/o hardware upgrades.

 

DirectX 11 (Where to find)?

Yes, your card supports DX10, but not DX11.

Anyway, the DirectX 11 for Windows Vista is available in Windows Update and marked as a "Recommended" download.
