Recording devices suddenly show no green bar activity and mic is quiet

This issue started a few days ago. I can use the various headsets and microphones that I have on Discord and as long as I crank up my settings, people can hear me but say that I'm quiet. But in Windows 10 under my recording devices, ANY microphone that I plug in (4 different USB headsets and 2 3.5mm headsets so far) will show no activity in the striped bar to the right of the device name, whereas this always used to be very active when I spoke into the microphone.

When I open Audacity or even Windows Voice Recorder, I click record and the audio signal line generally stays pretty flat, sometimes with a tiny bit of movement. Afterward when I click play, if I crank up my volume I can hear myself very quietly.

This is not an issue that I had AT ALL until a day or two ago. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my Realtek drivers, as well as tried generic newer drivers not specific to my motherboard. I really don't know what to do at this point, have never seen this happen, and am truly stumped.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is driving me absolutely nuts.

    :)

Microphone is really quiet and does not show any green bar activity

Just two days ago my mic was still working fine and everything was normal then when I came back to test out the microphone again using Audacity to see if it works; it shows a tiny bit of activity and I have to turn my volume up to 100% in order to hear my
voice. I have tried other recording devices to see if it was just the app problem but it's the same for others as well.

I have tried seeing if my mic is muted or not, updating audio drivers etc but it still does not fix my problem. I have set my recording device to my default device as well but it shows no green bar activity :/

I don't know if it's because my mic is broken or it's just something else. Help? Pretty stump about this problem :/

Microphone stopped working after this Windows update

I have a headset with a built in mic, the mic worked fine before the update and now doesn't pick up sound afterwards. The headset still has sound.

I tried to use iphone headphones with a mic and it detects the recording device but doesn't pick up sound.

    I have:

    - checked the device is set to default

    - removed and reinstalled the device

    - check the volume is not set to 0/mic is not muted

    - troubleshooted hardware and also recording devices

With both the headset mic, and iphone mic. If I just move them around, the levels in recording devices will show green bars, but if i speak into either it doesn't pick it up.

    System:

    Windows 10

    Asus Z170 Pro Gaming

    GTX 1060

    16GB RAM

Is there a fix for this? Or a way to roll back to before the update?

    Thank you x
