Windows 10: Recover Data from unformatted drive (NTFS) for free

I know there are tons of paid tools that I can use, but I'm wondering if there are any open source tools that will allow me to recover data from an unformatted drive with no writes since it became unformatted.

Any help would be appreciated, Thank You!

Unformat NTFS help!!

I tried Acronis and I couldn't find anything anywhere to recover a format. I'm scanning with GetDataBack for NTFS right now. It doesn't look like the format itself can be recovered. I miss the old unformat dos utility. Best I can do is try file recovery on it. So far that hasn't worked well using O&O Format recovery. It has trouble writing the recovered files to another drive. 1000s of write errors and a bsod will result. Windows in general has trouble copying alot of files in one shot. Drag and drop a folder with literally 1,000,000 files in it and xp will choke. On another note, has anyone ever noticed issues with Western Digital drives on an overclocked rig?

 

Unformat a hard drive?

unformat? hm.

theres no way to completely "unformat" a drive. there are, however, ways to recover lost data.

Firstly, make sure you don't access the drive you formatted. don't put any data on it or anything. Then, try using a freeware data recovery program on it. that may help.

if it doesn't, then you're most likely screwed...sorry......
