Recover documents deleted after Windows 10 October 2018 Update

Windows 10 October 2018 Update is available with several new features but it turns out that the update is causing more hard than good for some users. According to several users, the documents and files are missing after installing Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809).

According to numerous reports, the files and documents stored in libraries are deleted without any warning.

If you haven’t upgraded your PC to Windows 10 version 1809 yet, you’re recommended to wait until the update is offered to your device. In a blog post, Microsoft has explained that the update may not show up on all devices and you’re recommended to wait for the update notification. The broader rollout is expected to begin next week.

It appears that you can still recover those files and documents. In this article, we’ll guide you through the steps of recovering the deleted files after upgrading to Windows 10 version 1809.

There’s a bug in some installations of Windows 10 October 2018 Update that causes the removal of user files, documents and pictures. There are several reports from users that suggests Windows 10 October 2018 Update is deleting documents and files regardless of the computer’s configuration.

At this point, it’s not known why the update is removing the contents without users permission. Judging from reports, the issue doesn’t appear to be widespread.

The users claim that the files have been removed from both the personal and clients PC. Unfortunately, Windows failed to create a backup of your content, that means there’s no easy way to recover those files.

It’s worth noting that restoring the system to Windows 10 April 2018 Update may not address this problem as the restore point doesn’t include the backup of files stored in libraries.

    Microsoft responds

In a statement, Microsoft revealed that the company is actively investigating the reports. As Microsoft is aware of the issues reported by users, a fix is expected to land on Tuesday with several other improvements.

If files like documents and pictures are missing after installing Windows 10 October 2018 Update, here’s how you can recover them.

Restore files deleted after installing Windows 10 October 2018 Update

You can use an app called Recuca to recover the deleted content but there’s no guarantee that all of your files would be recovered. You’re recommended to wait until Microsoft offers a workaround.

You can use Recuva at your own risk to recover the deleted files. For those unfamiliar, Recuva is a popular and reliable solution developed by Piriform (parent company is Avast). The app is supposed to recover the deleted files, it can also recover files deleted from hard disk drives and USB drives.

It’s a free app and you can use it undelete those files and document. If you’re interested, here’s how to recover the missing or deleted files after installing Windows 10 October 2018 Update:

    • Download and install Recuva for free.
    • Open Recuva and it would scan your hard drives for deleted files and lets you recover them.
    • You can open Recuva and point to the location (such as documents) where files were previously located.
    • The built-in wizard guides you throughout the entire process.
    • Recuva should be able to recover your files. Depending on the number of files and their size, the recovery process can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours.

It’s important to understand that it’s a third-party solution and it may or may not but it’s the only thing you can do at this moment as no official workaround is available at the time of writing the story.

    The key takeaways

    • Windows 10 October 2018 Update deletes user content.
    • The cause of the glitch hasn’t been discovered.
    • There’s no system backup that means restoring contents is not an easy task.
    • Restoring the system to the previous version of Windows 10 doesn’t help.
    • It’s pretty hard to tell which systems could be impacted.
    • Microsoft is actively investigating the reports.
    • You can use a third-party app to recover the data.

In the end, your data is important. You’re always recommended to create backups of files before installing any software update.

  2. Recovering Deleted Documents From Computer?

I had some documents on my windows 10 computer where i deleted into the recycle bin and deleted it from my computer. These documents got deleted few months ago i believe. Is there any way to retrieve these documents?
Im not 100 percent sure what these documents are called but i think i have a clue.

Is there a way to recover old documents thats been deleted and if so, how can i do this? I had one or two important documents that i can no longer find on my computer... and that is either due to me deleting it or overriding it with other information and saved it which i doubt. But when you override a document, its impossible to check the previous copies right? However, i believe i deleted the documents in recycle bit and ultimately deleted them. Does anyone have any steps on how i can possibly recover something like this? The thing is im not 100 percent sure of the document name but if i saw name of documents, i can probably take a guess if that is the one.
