Windows 10: Recover files from faulty hard drive now replaced

Hi. My hard drive in my Desktop crashed and had to be replaced. I cannot access to old hard drive with an external hard drive reader as it just keeps telling me I do not have permission to access these files, keeps denying me permission and if I use the security tab it says the drive cannot be foundand the drive won't scan/repair. I have a lot of family photos going back decades on the hard drive and would hate to lose them. Can anyone suggest the best way to hopefully recover them? Any help offered would be very much appreciated. Thank you

windows by default does not have HFS and HFS+ based hard drives.
Able to perform retrieval on both HFS and HFS+ based hard drives. and so will not work with windows

Help recovering files off portable Hard drive

Hi all a friend of mine has broken his hard drive he's been quoted £200 from a data recovery company in the city which i think is very ott *Eek! . I said id take a look at it to see if i can recover so files off it.Just wondered what would be regarded as the best data recovery software to use?

He said the hard drive is being recongnised by the pc & that he was told that if he open the hard drive up it would be permanently wiped???? as i was thinking about hooking it up to my pc as a slave drive? i will try to recover the data files first any other ideas?
