My hard drive is experiencing errors so I tried to load a new drive to replace it but it came up as Windows 8.1. How do I create a Windows 10 recovery drive? My system was originally 8.1 and I updated via on-line years ago to Windows 10.

    Steps I took:

    1. Used "recovery drive" to create USB image

    2. disconnected old drive and connected new drive

    3. rebooted from usb

    4. went through install questions to install windows on new drive

    5. rebooted on new drive

    6. It was windows 8.1 not windows 10 as I had running on my old drive. Update said up to date.

My old drive is still limping along so I can remake the recovery drive. How can I force the "recovery drive" app to give me the Windows 10 files from the free update rather than the original Windows 8.1?

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

DTS supported natively by Windows 8/8.1 and it should work on windows 10 too just DDL require to unlock your driver .
