  1. Recovering a partition accidentally messed up using repair-bde

Hello,I accidentally cloned a BitLocker encrypted 4 TB external drive F: to a wrong 14 TB internal drive D: using repair-bde.Disk Management shows D: like Explorer does: the cloned 4 TB drive. However, it also says disk 1 is a healthy 13038.98 GB Basic Data Partition.diskpart also shows the 12 TB partition but no file system.Partition Find and Mount didn't find anything with the intellectual scan. I'm running TestDisk right now but that will probably take a while. Is there any chance I can get my GPT and data back like it was before? Apparently, someone managed to fix the MBR in a similar s

Cannot open repair-bde's result file/partition if its size is big?

I have created Windows 10 install parition at my external HDD's empty one. But after reboot, I realized that I lost partition infos in my HDD, diskmgmt.msc and explorer cannot find my partitions except Windows install partition. I managed to recover 2 partitions
by using Testdisk(After long, hard time), but I had another partition, which is bitlocker enabled partition. Since my data infomation is live(no data overwritten on that partiton area), I could try to use repair-bde to decrypt and recover the partiton. (as
same problem in this link : How to recover data from a deleted, BitLocker enabled partition? | NORMAN BAUER)

when I use Repair-bde to find my lost partition info, it said 'Finished decryption' with no errors. It reads metadata without errors as well. But I cannot get any result in neither .img file nor target partition.(I tried 3 times over it to verify the process
I have done.)I googled similar situations like me, and concluded repair-bde result cannot opened if it's target file/partition is big.

Is this bug from repair-bde utility? or the bug of 7zip? I really want to recover my precious data in the encrypted partition. Or Are there any other solutions to recover my data?

How to open .img file created by repair-bde

but the answers above does not work. I tried 7z, ISO, and even Testdisk to result partition. but nothing of them cannot see the files in the img file/partition.

At least, 7z can list some files using Open inside # after about 7 hours .But that's all! I cannot recover files in the files still.

and I tried m3 recovery, the commercial program. but its result was bad. It's result was empty while 7z can confirm my files using 'Open inside' though it's filename and directory is imperfect.

  3. Cannot open repair-bde's result file/partition if its size is big?

    Hello Minhu,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums. We are happy to assist you on this.

The Repair-bde command-line tool is intended for use when the operating system does not start or when you cannot start the BitLocker Recovery Console. You should use Repair-bde if the following conditions are true:

    1. You have encrypted the drive by using BitLocker Drive Encryption.

    2. Windows does not start, or you cannot start the BitLocker recovery console.

    3. You do not have a copy of the data that is contained on the encrypted drive.

The following limitations exist for Repair-bde:

    1. The Repair-bde command-line tool cannot repair a drive that failed during the encryption or decryption process.
    2. The Repair-bde command-line tool assumes that if the drive has any encryption, then the drive has been fully encrypted.

Note: To avoid additional data loss, you should have a spare hard drive available. Use this spare drive to store decrypted output or to back up the contents of the damaged volume.

Kindly let us know if you need any further assistance with Windows. We are glad to assist you.

    Hope it helps.
