Windows 10: Recovering data from password protected drive. Windows says it need to be formatted

Hello AllMy wife's computer died Lenovo G80-50, Windows 10, likely motherboard. Unfortunately, despite my continual warnings, she didn't do regular backups and needs data from the user password-protected drive I don't see how the data would be encrypted.When I put the drive in my hard drive caddy on my Windows 10 Pro Thinkpad or in the UltraBay drive holder, the Thinkpad assigns it a drive letter but says the drive needs to be formatted. Properties shows 0 bytes used and 0 bytes free space. Hardware shows Samsung SSD EVO 1TB. "Device is working properly." If click check the drive for er

How to recover data from usb before formatting?

quick format loses no data, and at least makes it show as a partition. most recovery tools wont work if the drive is showing as RAW or without a partition.

 

Recover data from a RAW partition

I think you should mention that which file system you used. As per of my experience I suggest you Remo Recover utility to recover data from old hard drive. I think it will be helpful for you.

Run CMD


1. diskpart
2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

2. select disk #
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.
