Windows 10: Recovering lost files and apps after reinstalling windows 10 Pro

After a update my computer fell I repationed the boot area of the disc and rebooted and reimaged windows lost all apps folders files. I am looking for a way to recover lost, hidden or somehow recoverable files

Restore factory settings do list Removes your personal files, apps and settings, and reinstalls the version of Windows that came on this PC.

So if this isn't true well than just erase the drive and install a clean Windows 10 with all the drivers u need but why should it be true

Recover lost data and files

Upgraded to Windows 10 Pro, which resulted in me loosing apps, programs and files. I would like to revert back to Windows 8 to recover what files I can. I have tried settings-update & security-recovery; however, no roll back option shows on my screen.
What steps can I take to recover lost files, and programs since this option does not exist on my computer. I have looked in the (C disk and have found the Windows.old file on my computer. I'm hoping I can recover my data and files someway. I understand I
only have 30 days before this file is deleted by Microsoft, so please help, if you can!
