Recovering partitions when SSD is plugged into a new computer

My Laptop suffered damage and broke a couple of days ago. I have no reason to believe ssd was impacted in anyway, and I ordered a ssd to usb adaptor and plugged my old ssd into a new windows computer. The old computer was partitioned, as I had both Ubuntu and Windows installed upon it. I am trying to access both series of data, but I cannot access either one. For the Windows partiion, it is assigned a drive letter, but when I go into users, I don't have read or write permissions. I am not sure how to regain this, as I am not sure how to give myself these permissions. Additionally, the Ubuntu d

  2. New ssd won't boot up without old ssd attached to pc - new ssd only has one partition

    Hi Igor,

Thank you for looking into my problem.
    I'm sorry, here you go:

Sadly the new ssd doesn't show up as a boot option in the boot order in BIOS, the only boot options are old ssd with the MBR partition (and bootable usb when plugged in). The new ssd is listed as a coupled device though, but not listed as a boot-option.

I did try the Repair (not install) option using the bootable usb (while the old ssd is removed, new ssd is still plugged in) but Windows notified that the repair procedure couldn't fix the problem.

Is there a way to get a 2nd partition on the new ssd, destined for booting it (just like the old ssd has)? (without formatting the new ssd and doing a clean reinstall of windows)

    Kind regards,

    Marnix

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that
