Windows 10: Recovering Windows 10/11 Pro license

Hello,So i have a problem.Since 4 years ago, I had a asus laptop, it came with Windows 10 Home.2 years ago, I upgraded, with my microsoft account, Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 PRO and I had no new product key, I think it was a digital license, but I did kept the mail of the confirmation order and i can also see it in the order history on my Microsoft account, anyway, I did have a Windows 10 PRO activated.Recently, I took the decision to change for Windows 11, so I did a clean install of Windows 11 with a USB key so not throught windows update and I completely formatted my computer. Free upgrade from Windows 11 Home to 11 Pro using 10 Pro retail license

My current computer has an activated Windows 10 Pro retail license. I'm planning to replace my current computer by buying a new computer that comes preinstalled with Windows 11 Home, and then I understand I can use my 10 Pro license to upgrade to 11 Pro for free.

What's the most straightforward way of accomplishing this? The obvious approach that comes to mind involves two steps:

1. Reinstall Windows 10 Pro on new computer and activate with my existing retail license.
   
2. Upgrade new computer to 11 Pro for free through the settings.
   

Is there a simpler way of doing this without having to reinstall Windows 10? For example, would it be possible to somehow "trade in" my Windows 10 Pro license for 11 Pro? I'm fairly new to Windows licensing and am just trying to understand what is possible/best practice, with minimal effort.

 

Windows 11 Home to Pro upgrade

Want to upgrade 11 Home to 11 Pro. Tried download, but apparently files transferred were for 11 Enterprise. This will not activate; error is "invalid digital license or product key". This is on a new Surface. How to proceed?

Can withdraw/delete this. The suggestion to downgrade - listed below - with a 'fake' windows 10 key works.

 

Windows 11 Pro license issue

I had a digital license for Windows 10 Pro for my personal PC, which was at one point associated with my Microsoft account. I decided to upgrade to Windows 11 Pro. Because my CPU did not meet the minimum requirements of Windows 11 Pro, I purchased a new motherboard and CPU. When they arrived, I proceeded to install the new hardware. I then booted into Windows 10 Pro, which updated the drivers and seemed to be running fine, so I started installing Windows 11 Pro. When the install process was at about 90%, a message popped up saying that Windows wasn't activated. Since the process took several hours to get to this point, I decided to let it complete. When I booted into Windows 11 Pro, it was not active, and I couldn't activate it with my Microsoft account. After troubleshooting with support for hours I became frustrated and left the chat. At that point I felt that I had no choice but to purchase a new license because I couldn't be without my computer.



Here are the questions I would like answered, please:



1) Is there any way at this point to recover the old license? Maybe use it with a different computer?



2) Regardless of whether or not I can recover my previous license, what is the explanation as to what happened to the license I had associated with my Microsoft account?



3) Why was there be no record of the license associated with that address - do digital licenses expire?



4) How can we prevent this from happening in the future?



5) I do not want go through this again. Can I get a product key so I don't have to rely on a digital license that could potentially disappear?
