  1. Recovery 450MB partition

    Hello,

my first partition in my GPT disk is a recovery NTFS partition: 450MB total and 140MB used.

After the CU it is broken (can't make USB disk anymore).

What can I do to restore the functionality of such partition?

I even tried with Macrium to copy that partition BEFORE the CU update, but, it worked only once and now is broken again.

    :)

    Thank you - I don't have a screenshot, but here is what I now have;

I have two recovery drive partitions. My thought is to use Mini Tool Partition Wizard and delete one, then

    merge/extend the leftover space to C: .

    Recreate Windows 10 Recovery partition

When Windows 10 is installed as a hyper-v virtual machine it creates a 350Mb System Reserved partition at the beginning of the disk and a 450Mb Recovery partition at the end of the disk.

Problem is this 450Mb Recovery partition at the end of the disk then prevents hyper-v edit disk from being able to shrink the dynamic disk!

Solution seems to be either move the 'Recover Partition' or delete and recreate it, question is how?

    Recovery 450MB partition

New computer last Oct., HDD has 4 partitions, 100MB, 150GB C:, 500MB, 780GB D:. The first and third partitions are not assigned a drive letter and not accessible, don't need to be and best not so as not to break the booting or restoring features.

In a way it's redundant the reason being if you used it then it would go back to old windows so you would have massive updates running into gigabytes with 10 you can download the latest up-to-date version for free so a recovery isn't needed you can just do a clean install

    Type the command

    reagentc /info

to see what´s the status of the Recovery Enviromnent.

I use PowerShell (Administrator) to do it.

    Recovery 450MB partition

So, the WinRE is in partition 4, and it seems to be working OK. Note that a Windows 10 upgrade can create a new recovery partition.

This is not the case unless pc still has links to an old vendor recovery partition. The recovery partition normally resets pc to currently installed version.

You can use a utility like Minitool Partition Wizard to peruse the recovery partition if you have more than one and identify the one having the latest date - that's the one to specify for a recovery image. Then use the command REAGENTC.EXE /setreimage /path {mypath} to set your recovery image. Then reboot and check what is set using reagentc /info and that your recovery options work. I did this once but can't find my notes. I expect others can give you the details.

Actually, the recovery partition is not really required. It's sole function is to enable you to 'reset your pc'.

You can do this downloading using a usb installation drive, inserting it in pc whilst running windows and running setup.exe.

On my 32GB tablet, I always delete them to save space.

True, but you might as well configure it correctly.

    Recovery 450MB partition

As I said, I usually delete them, especially on a legacy bios install as they use one of the four valuable primary partitions, and just waste space imo.

You know, you can end up with the recovery 'partition' inside the C: drive instead. One of my legacy bios machines had all 4 partitions in use and the only pre-existing recovery partition was an OEM one that was already full. Running Setup to upgrade to Windows 10 put the files that would normally be in a recovery partition into the hidden and protected C:\Recovery folder instead, as Reagentc shows...
