    Recovery disk. What functions will it perform?


    Hi,

    Just curious. I created a recovery disk on a 32 GB flash drive that included the system files and has 17.2 GB of used space. What functions can I perform with this disk? E. G., Clean install? Refresh/reset? I'm wondering if the USB stick that I made with the "media creation tool" as an installation disk (a 4 GB capacity) is a bit redundant.

    Creating a recovery disk

    Hi there!

    I have several computers with Windows 10 installed - some 32-bit and others 64-bit versions. I am willing to create USB recovery disks mainly for Windows 10 fresh installation purposes. Therefore I have several questions regading the subject:

    1. What is the difference between creating a recovery disk by downloading it using Media Creation Tool and by creating it from the Control Panel?

    2. When creating a recovery disk from the Control Panel, what is the difference of functionality between simply creating a recovery drive and backing up system files to the recovery disk?

    3. Do I have to make separate recovery disks for 32-bit and 64-bit versions or one will work with the other versions?

    when i make a recovery disk for win 10, will it still have the same problems as when i made the backup?

    I try to create a new user for my wife but her email address would not let me create it. do I have to delete her user address before I create her again? or create a phony person, copy the information from user 1 to user 2, delete user one, create user
    1 again with the proper email addresses and then copy user 2 information back to the correct user 1?

    as for the internet connection, I replace a bad 10 base T cable from the router to the laptop. btw, I am running build 10565. chas

    Recovery disk. What functions will it perform?

    The USB stick you made with the tool is an installer; the recovery stick can be used to do Recovery -- very different functions.

    The recovery disk allows you to boot directly into the recovery environment to diagnose and repair an installation. From there you can repair startup, file system and other problems, run System Restore, Refresh or Reset your PC. You cannot install Windows from a recovery disk.

    Certainly with Windows 10 (where you have no Media like a DVD) the recovery disk(s) are your only option in case of a HD crash or other serious issues with the Windows installation.

    Best Practise is to have the Recovery Disk(s) and to create a Backup (at least once a week) to a NAS (Network attached Storage) or similar. In case of a major crash, the system can be fixed in 2 -3 hours (depending on the size of the backup)
    Please keep your system files / programs, separated from the Data files.
    Best Practise is to have de Data that you need to access daily on a second partition or second drive and make backups at least weekly.
