Recovery Partition (or lack of it) problem

Another day, another system. The one I asked about the other day where I deleted the Recovery Partition I fixed by running an in-place install. This one hasn't created the partition *Sad

History - upgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate, Start Button not working, in fact no COM+ applications work at all. Did a System Reset (keep data, reinstall all applications). Now there's an un-allocated area of 449MB at the back of the installation partition, and no reserved recovery partition.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>reagentc /info
Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE) and system reset configuration
    Information:

    Windows RE status: Enabled
    Windows RE location: \\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk0\partition2\Recovery\WindowsRE
Boot Configuration Data (BCD) identifier: fa44c611-473a-11e5-94d6-9d19efb7da27
    Recovery image location:
    Recovery image index: 0
    Custom image location:
    Custom image index: 0

    REAGENTC.EXE: Operation Successful.

Which to me says it thinks the recovery partition is there (???)

    Layout on MBR disk is

    System reserved - 102MB
    Wiindows Install - 418GB
    Unallocated 449MB

    Now how to fix this?
    Thanks
    Dave

    :)

Have you tried Nokia Photo Browser upon Ovi Store?Windows Phone Games and Apps - Opera Mobile Store

Be warned that it will take quite some time to process the number of photos that you have on your memory card.

You can always create albums AGAIN in photo application or add tags to your pictures for easy vieweing.

Not perfect if you need to re-tag or re-assign 1000's of pictures to new albums. But it is possible.

    Use the Photos application,

    Everything is OK.

Windows RE location is either a Windows 10 installation partition or a recovery partition.

Technically I'd agree with you - but the whole point of the recovery partition is that you don't store WinRE on the boot drive in \Recovery\WindowsRE.

I'm currently re-running the installation after issuing a reagentc /disable and deleting the Recovery directory, in the hope that it will do the decent thing and actually create the recovery partition.

Windows Tech Support were less use than a chocolate tea pot - basically saying they wouldn't help me build the recovery parition and that I needed to reinstall Windows 7 and start over. They also tried to claim that installing from media (DVD/USB) rather than the upgrade application "wasn't supported".

    Success! Here's what I did:

    • reagentc /disable, delete the \Recovery directory and also the winre_backup_partition.marker file from the root of the installation drive.
    • Re-size the windows partition back to its original size, followed by a chkdsk /f
    • Re-run setup.

Recovery partition now created. Though there must be an easier/quicker way.

  8. Recovery Partition (or lack of it) problem

I've been trying to find out information about this, but can't. I've read that W10 was going to do away with the Recovery Partition, but when installing W10, a recovery partition was created.

This 450MB Recovery Partition was created by W10 and I don't know what it does.

How can I test to see if this Recovery Partition is working correctly?

    Thank you?

    - Right click on the Start button and select the "Command Prompt (Admin)" option.
    - Type (or copy and paste) the following commands.

    diskpart
    select disk 0
    list partition
    exit
    reagentc /info
