  1. Recovery/reinstallation of Windows 10

Long story short, some keys got deleted from the registry so I decided to do a recovery of Windows 10 through the in OS recovery tool. Windows 10 went through the reinstallation process, restarting several times. After the last time restarting, the computer went straight to the Windows time/date screen, but would not respond to any input from the USB mouse or the USB keyboard. I checked the USB ports and they were all working(tested with other USB devices). During restart, the machine would bypass the HP splash screen and boot loader(GRUB), I couldn't access the BIOS or anything. I was able to solve this problem by power cycling the machine. Figuring the Windows 10 reinstall may have broken or been corrupted, I went into Linux Mint(dual booted on the same machine) and tried further trouble shooting.

I can access Linux Mint without any problems, now my problem when trying to boot Windows 10 is it will show the Windows start up screen, then return to the same time/date screen that doesn't respond to any keyboard or mouse input.

Next step in trouble shooting I tried was a bootable flash drive with the ISO from the official Windows site, but it refuses to boot off of the flash drive, giving me the error "An error happened when accessing the disk...)

Here are some solutions I have tried:

    - Made sure boot from USB is first in the boot order through the BIOS

    - I have formatted two different USB sticks in FAT, exFAT, and NTFS(I have done this on Linux Mint and a separate Mac computer)

    - Deleted all windows partitions through Linux Mint(though Windows 10 still shows up in the GRUB boot loader, when selected, goes straight to time/date screen)

    - I have tried manipulating the BIOS anyway I could, including doing a memtest for 10 passes with no errors found

    - Tried booting Windows 10 through a DVD-RW, but the disks were defective, currently waiting for more DVD-RW disks to come in

The hardware that I am using is a HP Compaq 800 Elite SFF, Cruzer Glide USB sticks(16gig). The computer is dual booted with Windows 10 and Linux Mint. I have no way of accessing ANY Windows programs or trouble shooters, the only work I am able to do is through Linux Mint.

I have been working on this problem for the past 4 days and I can't think of anything else to do. Please help.

    :)

  2. Reinstall Windows 10 to new hard drive

    Hi Rodolpho,

We want to know about the issue you're having with your recovery drive. Please answer the questions below:

    • Are you trying to reinstall Windows 8 or Windows 10?
    • If you already upgraded to Windows 10, were you able to create a new copy of the recovery drive?

We suggest creating a new copy of the recovery drive and then follow the steps provided by Andre Da Costa above this thread.

Update us with the outcome so we can assist you further.

[Solved] Windows 10 keeps reinstalling KB3119142

I noticed quite some time ago that KB3119142 (Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Update 4 Redistributable Package) kept reinstalling itself for some reason. At least once daily. Sometimes up to several times a day. I just ignored it. It didn't seem to be doing any harm. And I figured they'd eventually fix it. Well...days turned into weeks, weeks into months, with no end to the problem in sight. It dragged on unsolved for at least the last few months. Literally reinstalling itself hundreds of(at least a hundred, felt like more) times in that period of time.

So I finally googled it a couple days ago. And just got around to fixing it today. Which appears to have worked. And it couldn't have been easier to do. I feel so stupid to have let it intimidate me for so long.*Oops! Recovery/reinstallation of Windows 10
Below are links to the thread that I got the fix idea from, and the official MS support info page for KB3119142(from which I quoted the above).

    Recovery/reinstallation of Windows 10

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
