Recovery/WindowsRE folders created on my external drive? Safe to delete?

    Hi All,

As of 10/06/20 - I've had a new folder created on my external hard drive called Recovery, inside is another folder called WindowsRE. Both folders are blank but looking at the properties of the top folder the size is 376MB. I use this external drive mainly for personal files and my PC has 2 SSD drives for the OS/Games. So I don't know why a Windows recovery folder has turned up here?

Am I able to delete this folder and stop windows creating folders like this on this external drive? If so how do I do this?

    Many thanks.

    :)

  2. create a recovery drive

If the steps provided did not work, we suggest that you save your important files using an external hard drive and then perform a clean install.

After doing a clean install, you may create a recovery drive.

Do let us know if you have any other concerns.

    Can't safely remove external disk

In reference to the steps of your suggestions:

    • The issue is specific to the particular disk and it started after I've used the disk to save the System image backup (created with the Control Panel > File History tool).
    • I didn't disable any windows Service. I'm just wondering if there is any to disable.
    • Safe boot with networking, or clean boot doesn't resolve the issue.

    Thank you.

Recovery/WindowsRE folders created on my external drive? Safe to delete?

    How To: Create recovery partition.

it worked when i copied all the files of the disk to the recovery partition i created, but i had to use WinPE tab to add the entry.

    Type: WIM Image (Ramdisk)
    Name: Recovery
    Path: Z:\Sources\boot.wim
    and hit Add Entry
I tried it in VirtualBox and it worked.
At first, it would add a second "Windows 7" entry to the list, but when the installation is finished, the old one is deleted. (I formatted only C: partition)
