Recurrent DPC Watchdog Violation 0x00000133 error after Win 10 upgrade

    Hi all,

I’ve been encountering a daily DPC Watchdog Violation error code 0x00000133 BSOD ever since I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 about 2 weeks ago. This seems to be happening more frequently when playing games or watching videos, but it did watch it happen once while I wasn’t actively using my computer, with only discord up on my monitors.

I’ve read through quite a few of these threads for ideas. Here are the fixes that I have tried:

    • Updating my graphics and sound drivers
    • Replacing the iastor.sys driver with the storahci.sys driver
    • Running CHKDSK
    • Running sfc /scannow
    • Disabling fast startup
    • Uninstalling any potentially conflicting antivirus software
    • I am not running an SSD yet so any SSD firmware compatibility issues should not apply
    • Bluescreenview diagnostics – these consistently have identified hal.dll and ntoskrnl.exe, not pointing directly at any problematic drivers

Fixes I have not tried yet:

    • Manually updating my USB drivers avoiding this unless it’s clear that this is related to the issue
    • Reinstalling Windows 10 I view this as a nuclear option, but am prepared to do it if necessary. However, I’ve had this computer since I built it in 2012, so it may be time to start fresh.
    • Updating my BIOS running a 12/11 version, while the most recent version is from 5/13 – nervous about doing this and bricking my PC
    • My HDD is fairly old, and from what I read, it’s possible that it may be having issues with Windows 10. I do plan on installing an SSD soon, but wanted to see if I can sort out this recurrent BSOD first.

What I’m hoping to accomplish here:

    • If someone who has experience analyzing BSOD errors could look at the attached dump file and see if there’s any obvious problems I can address, that would be a great start
    • If you have fixed this problem before, using a solution that I have not listed above, I’d love to hear about it

    Thanks for your help!

    :)
